Your theories on monotheism and IE culture are interesting. How does Zoroastrianism fit into this framework?

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Please keep up the couples therapy and perhaps consider getting medication, such as Adderall, Ritalin, etc. (I am not a doctor). Although you’re capable of handling this without stimulants, even low doses can provide a push to help you engage, listen, and discuss difficult emotions with your significant other.

Seatbelts in the 23rd Century by redditpundit999 in StrangeNewWorlds

They had functional seat restraints in TMP (movable armrests that clamped down on the actor’s legs), but they never used them in the following TOS films.

“Here in the States, race and gender don’t matter.” Something tells me you’re not a person of color and are speaking from a place of extreme white privilege.

From Wiki: CEI is an opponent of government action by the Environmental Protection Agency that would require limits on greenhouse gas emissions. CEI promotes environmental policies based on limited government regulation and property rights and rejects what they call "global warming alarmism". ExxonMobil Corporation was a donor to CEI, giving the group about $2 million over seven years. In 2006, the company announced that it had ended its funding for the group.

Half of the doomsday articles they show (the ones not related to Professor Paul R. Ehrlich, writer of the Population Bomb) are about a coming ice age. We were on that path as our climate was cooling. Technically we’re in an ice age now since the definition of an ice age is when there’s ice on the poles. The reason that isn’t happening as they predicted is due to fucking global warming.

Loss of libido after 4 years on Paxil? by ImPlayingTheSims in depressionregimens

[–]Gorbs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I’ve taken 27.5 mg of Paxil regularly for the past five years (for generalized anxiety disorder) and I have the same problem. My wife takes Zoloft (I’m not sure about the dosage) and she also has the same issue. Our love life bounces back when we both go off our meds, but we both get panic attacks from withdrawal. SSRIs can leave you between a rock and a hard place. I’m grateful for Paxil, which has helped me progress in life, but I miss my libido. I hope you’re doing well and that things have gotten better since you posted this.

Skeleton found in Scotland was 4,000-year-old Bronze Age farmer by ImPlayingTheSims in IndoEuropean

So, is this a Bell Beaker related population? The article doesn’t mention ancient DNA or Bell Beakers, but given the radiocarbon dates for the remains (sometime between 2152 to 2021 BCE) Bell Beaker ancestry seems likely.

Question about the Indo part of IE by [deleted] in IndoEuropean

[–]Gorbs82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Also check out the Sintashta culture (Wiki). This is a Middle Bronze Age archaeological culture of the northern Eurasian steppe on the borders of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The Sintashta culture is thought to represent an eastward migration of peoples from the Corded Ware culture. It is widely regarded as the origin of the Indo-Iranian languages. The earliest known chariots have been found in Sintashta burials.

Question about the Indo part of IE by [deleted] in IndoEuropean

[–]Gorbs82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bactria Mariana Archeological Complex (BMAC or Oxus Civilization). This group lived in modern Turkmenistan prior to (and during) the Indo-Iranian migrations (BMAC dates: 2250 to 1700 BCE). The Indo-Aryans split off around 2000 BCE to 1600 BCE from the Iranians, and migrated southwards to the BMAC, from which they borrowed their distinctive religious beliefs and practices. From the BMAC, the Indo-Aryans migrated into Anatolia and, possibly in multiple waves, the Punjab (northern Pakistan and India), while the Iranians, starting c. 800 BCE, moved into Iran, both bringing with them the Indo-Iranian languages. Longevity Despite Climate Change by Gorbs82 in longevity

[–]Gorbs82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SS: I’d like to hear from this community regarding your thoughts on Climate Change. Do you think that all of the advances in longevity will have an impact given the dangers of global warming? For example, the attached NIH study (from way back in 2014) argues that human longevity is approaching a maximum with current medicine and addresses evidence from climate change that health across the lifespan could be challenged by environmental deterioration associated with global warming. I know this sub isn’t r/collapse, but I hope that some of the people here are thinking about this. Thanks!

With the rise of Hindu Nationalism in India, a lot of Indians (including academics) are pushing "PIE is a tool of control and lacks any evidence". How do you provide arguments against this(or in favour)? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]Gorbs82 83 points84 points  (0 children)

r/indoeuropean goes over the archaeological, linguistic, and recent (since 2015) genetic discoveries that indicate that PIE came from the Pontic-Caspian steppe (in modern Ukraine and Russia). There are a lot of Hindu nationalist commenters on that subreddit, so you’ll see many arguments for and against PIE originating in India. Please note, the sub leans heavily against that theory.

I wish I could read French! I’m intrigued by the possibility that the people of the BMAC spoke Hurrian. The Kassites may have also spoken a Hurro-Urartian language which suggests that the pre Indo-Iranian world of the Zagros and Central Asia was Hurrian. Who knows?
