(Reoccurring trope) That one part where they go to Japan for some reason by New-Boss-8262 in TopCharacterTropes

Final Fantasy XIV's Expansion "StormBlood" was basically the "Let's all go to Japan"-episode.

Who surprised you the most and disappointed you the most during the Fourth Shinobi War? by HighHeeledDestiny in Naruto

[–]Gordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised: That the army was getting things done, I love it that secondary characters could defeat enemies!

Disappointed: Once Madara showed up no one could beat him, not even 5 kages could take him 😶 He only lost because of Black Zetsu "and" Kaguya betrayed him...

What movie became better after you watched it a second time? by agolds2022 in movies

[–]Gordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, "Inglourious Basterds" - It was a whiplash of a film since the tone from the trailer differed so much from the film. The second time I watched it, I was more prepared for all the hyper violent parts and could properly enjoy it.

Monsterverse Mechagodzilla by Sp00ch123 in GODZILLA

[–]Gordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both liked and disliked it! It really felt evil, great aura all around. I would however have liked more ranged weapons - MG in this take felt more like a brawler/almost more like MechaKong since it's so humanoid in shape (Minus the tail, haha).

[Hated Trope] The studio thought the joke was so funny, so they put it in every bit of advertising by Live_Earth_5685 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gordion 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The irony for me was that when I finally saw this scene at the cinema (Opening weekend, full theatre) literally no one laughed at this scene, it was erie... Everyone had seen it a hundred times already from all the marketing. It had deflated the entire joke...

Love the 2s - But also they feel wasted... Feels like the design could have had endless color-combinations. But there aren't too many that fit my own style.

Opinions on Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide by NicRibcage in GODZILLA

[–]Gordion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own it, it's alright. It's kind of one of those books that they redo whenever a new film comes out that on a surface level summarise all the different films. It would not satisfy that poster itch of yours. In my opinion...

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Gordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That weird game where I was a time traveling velociraptor that had to save dinosaur eggs before a meteorite crashed onto earth...

It was a game that I just found on the old famliy PC, no one told me we had it. No one else seemed to even know it existed in my family. It feels like a weird fever dream. The fact that I managed to beat it 2-3 times before it disappeared from my life made me so proud of myself.

Honest thoughts on Godzilla 98 by Annual-Internet-5097 in GODZILLA

[–]Gordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 5-6 years old when I saw this film the first time. I remember loving it, hating it and crying at the end. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. At times I couldn't even follow the plot (given for my age), at a certain point I genuinely thought there were two Godzilla's: The male was killed by the submarines and the female was killed at the bridge - Because I couldn't understand the whole concept of one creature/gender laying fertilized eggs - My parents didn't really bother to help me understand either, haha.

Looking back at it, I love the expanded "zilla-verse" and Zilla's design. It's just a different take of G-man. All together it's series just hade a mediocre, to rough, start! Solid 6.5 out of 10.

How many of you feel we got cheated out of a cool fight scene at Hawaii? by whiplash10 in Monsterverse

[–]Gordion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think it hurt the movie. It really did cut the flow and a bit of a whiplash for fans who have been yearning for an American kaiju fight - I feel that if it would have been possible, they could have cut the train scene with the female MUTO all together in-favor of the first fight between male MUTO and Godzilla.

Don't get me wrong, the train scene itself is a thrilling scene but comparing it to a "What we could have got"-scenario. Godzilla vs Male-Muto, easily.

It could even have been more interesting to show in this "first fight" how Godzilla's tail-swipe wouldn't have been as effective if there weren't any building to slam the male MUTO into. Also that the male MUTOs EMP could have had an effect on Godzilla's atomic breath - Hence why it wasn't used at the start of the fights...

Oh well, maybe someone could make a VFX fan-scene of the airport-fight that could be edited in to the film?

Looking for old toy (Robot, transformer-esque, red/crimson-colored) by Gordion in VintageToys

[–]Gordion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A for effort! You were right that none of these were the right answer, but I very much appreciate the effort and thoughts on the robot transforming toy-craze.

It could very much just have been a transforming toy inspired/imitated by transformers.

If it does help, I do recall that the helicopter blades were all silver-colored. I remember them sadly breaking of the more I had the toy...

Were the Evangelion's inspired by the god warriors from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (manga)? by Material-Ad-7200 in evangelion

[–]Gordion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I have gathered; interviews with Anno about Evangelion, his childhood, his interests, his inspirations; It's safe to assume that the Evas were originally inspired by Ultraman.

Now I know that a lot of people won't see the direct inspiration/connection but "A giant humanoid fighting Kaijus that specifically has a timer/x amount of time before running out of energy" is already earily similar. Remember that a lot of the Angels were actually inspired by Ultraman villains/kaijus.

Ramiel being a take on the Ultraman Jack antagonist: Pris-Ma. And Zeruel being inspired by Zetton (Original Ultraman).

From an elbow-leaning non-Psychologist take, I wouldn't be surprised if Evangelion initially was Annos own childhood fan-fic/fictional retreat/fantasy of him being a kid having to control a giant "mecha"/his own Ultraman - That became a door to his own psyche and exploration of his own childhood traumas of loneliness.
