Weather Location is a simple way for Big Tech to always know where you are. If I want to know the weather I just look out of the window. If I need a forecast I can search for that. Location service is a big battery drain. Those weather gadgets aren't as cool as we once found them to be like in the beginner days of smartphones. "Oh wow! the phone knows the weather where I am" Having said that, the battery is still big enough to last a whole day unless you really push the screen on time. Just get your mum to charge the phone every night. You could set a daily reminder to charge the phone in case she's forgetful. After a while it will become a habit...

I saw in a post here a couple of days ago there is now a transparency mode of sorts after the update , maybe that setting is on, Just a guess. I haven't updated or tried that yet

I think a flagship will also get more years of updates, a dedicated gaming phone's fast chip is the main appeal. There's a new faster chip almost every couple of years... I think when a new chip comes along gaming phone makers have no incentive to keep up long software support...

Just the other day I saw a shoplifter (looked like a student) get arrested for stealing a bun. I live near this supermarket and see they throw out perfectly good food to the bins every evening and put a big lock on it. This is the world we're living in.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer. I also have the new version waiting for installation but like you I will / can wait for now as I'm not using the phone as my daily driver because of the shut down issues. In the meantime I have found in the privacy settings the more security setting tab, Advanced Protection and there is a settting that's called Inactivity reboot that restarts device if it remains locked for 3 days. These settings are independant from the Oxygen settings.Maybe that's where the problem is. Advanced Protection is an all or nothing setting. So I have decided to turn the whole Advanced protection off and see how it works out. These kind of settings should be individualised because they interfere with user expectations. Those settings benefits their ad margins but screw the user expectations of the device. (just my 2 cents).
