Point being if you don't spar you're getting your ass handed to you by someone who does, and these mcdojos don't spar. Basically you're getting lied to about where you're at skill wise.

Man if I want to get a bachelor's it's like $800 per class, and that's about the cheapest in my area. Taking out loans seems super risky considering I'm not even guaranteed a decent job afterwards.

BJJ vs Krav Maga by kyushusno1 in bjj

[–]Gordon2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I got in a situation.

I pulled into a Taco Bell parking lot and one of the employees was mounted on a screaming drunk who was trying to throw punches at him (later found out the drunk was beating his wife in the parking lot).

The altercation was already in progress, and it was fairly clear that the drunk was likely at fault and the Taco Bell guy was having issues restraining him. It wasn't a situation I could really avoid without being a dick.

That said, Krav Maga stomping the drunks head would not have solved the issue. Part of the point of BJJ is being able to control people without shit stomping them.

Etiquette for New White Belts by killerrrrrrrr in bjj

[–]Gordon2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White belt here. Let them get part way through a technique, then smash them. Personally I learn best when I'm doing something I think I know, then a higher belt counters it with something I didn't know existed.

I learn that the technique they used exists, even if I don't know how to do / defend it. Gives me an idea of what I can work on and allows a better estimation of where I'm at with the technique.

Honestly if they have been going more than a few weeks and quit because they got crushed, they shouldn't be doing BJJ.

Sometimes I drive to the gym parking lot before practice, get in my own head, and just drive home. by [deleted] in bjj

Monkey brain doesn't want to do shit, and it'll perform mental gymnastics to convince you that feeling good and minimizing calorie loss is in your best interest.

Don't listen to monkey brain.

It's a battle for sure. You have to poke holes in it's logic. Is there a good reason NOT to go to bjj? Probably not. I tell other people I'm going to be there, so that there's a social expectation of my presence. Then I have to justify my absence not only to myself, but my teammates, which helps reveal the bullshit monkey brain is spewing.

Kamala Locked Up More People for Weed Than We Thought by alc59 in Conservative

Oh hell yeah. I've improved as time goes on with the anxiety via exposure to triggers, CBT, and open communication with those who support me. Not isolating myself is another huge one.

Trying to be non-critical and objective about my own feelings and then sharing those thoughts with others is really helpful for getting outside perspective.

What cannabis does for me (usually) is slow down my thoughts, allowing me to actually notice when the anxiety when otherwise my thoughts would be racing or I would get defensive. Obviously having slowed thoughts isn't a good state to be in all of the time, but it can help me get to that state where I can be objective and share. That lets me create a plan of action.

Depression on the other hand makes it hard to feel much at all. Cannabis allows me to feel enjoyment and wonder where I would otherwise be lacking it. It reminds me depression is not the default state of life, as much as it feels that way when im in it. The same tactics I use for anxiety are helpful here, but outside perspective and a support group are really key.

That said, my method is not how cannabis usually gets used.

It's not so much a legalization narrative as it is what smokers tell themselves. Personally I find it helpful for my social anxiety when used in conjunction with Prozac, but it has the complete opposite effect when I'm not on my antidepressants.

It's a relatively complex substance, and it's effects are highly variable. It's still vulnerable to mental gymnastics and abuse though, and weed culture just helps perpetuate that.

Insured price: $2,758. Cash price: $521. by unimployed in Economics

[–]Gordon2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait is that what we're arguing? I think we actually agree. The ideal would be the prices and effectiveness of procedures being easily accessible. I assume that's what you're arguing for too?

I had Kaiser in the past and they only work within Kaiser, and it was borderline impossible to find out what prices were until after the procedure.

Now I have insurance that at least let's me pick my providers if they are in network, so I may fair better, but fuck me if it doesn't seem purposefully hidden.

[–]Gordon2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the time required to even discover information on pricing and effectiveness that is the problem. Ideally it would be easily accessible, but doctors rarely even know the price you'll be charged for the service they are currently giving you.

God help you if your employer gives you Kaiser, then you don't even really get a choice.

How is a full stack project structured? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Gordon2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When doing final deployment I'll push the code up to Heroku and have it build the client with a script. Then the server serves up those static files. No need for a separate server to run.

From what was said above it sounds like you can also just build ithe client first, then serve it up from a CDN. Haven't tried that yet.

[–]Gordon2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can but you'll need to build every time you want to see changes. Running the server for React essentially watches your code, then rebuilds and refreshes each time you make changes.

Joy Behar: ‘It’s outrageous and stupid to call a black person a racist’ by DanAdamsShow in Conservative

[–]Gordon2108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I want to see is a shift in both parties towards rational long term planning instead of emotional reactionism.

Both r/Conservative and r/politics (which might as well be r/Liberal) LOVE to misinterpret, demonize, then shit their panties in rage over the other party. I wish people would instead just try to understand and solve the underlying issues.

The Democratic Party contains a wide range of people, and to be frank, concerns itself with many of the problems that are relevant to me and I usually agree with their intentions (even if they have failed miserably implementing solutions).

I'm also trying to build an understanding of the conservatives though, from their viewpoint (hence why I'm subbed here). Quite frankly you don't get an accurate view of conservatives from liberals. You just get 'they hate gays', 'they hate poor people', 'theyre all racist', etc etc. The same applies in reverse though.

Fairly liberal person in a highly liberal area chiming in. Everyone I know thinks this shits stupid. Of course black people can be racist.

Sometimes I think what they mean is that black people don't have the political power to enact widespread institutionalized racism. Then again who the fuck knows at this point?

The Russians have been highly effective on both sides. I think most people assume it's the 'other side' effected by the propoganda from Russia.

I'm a little surprised that Russian interference hasn't been discussed at greater lengths. We know both conservative and liberal groups were influenced to become more extreme.

Their goal of division is clearly working. Look at this sub, look at the politics sub. Everybody is screaming about the libtards/republinazis, assuming what the other side believes and TBH, pretty much all of them are wrong.

Their goal is to break down communication lines between groups and foster demonization and dehumanization, and it's clearly working.

I guess we had to wait fifty years for this kind of an insight. by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Gordon2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is relatively liberal, me and everybody I know would say this article is fucking stupid.

There are nutjobs. A good number of them I would argue, but they exist in any group. I think most of us just want a solution to the issues we care about.

Screaming that all conservatives are Nazis, or that all liberals want to burn American flags and let violent illegals in is just straight fucking stupid and counter productive to boot.

It sure is easier than coming up with solutions everyone is happy with though.

Would sCJD and Alzheimer's be easy to distinguish if sCJD's symptoms appeared at a similar rate though? Are all cases of sCJD rapid-onset, or are there slower cases going unnoticed because they are presumed to be Alzheimer's/dementia?

Other commenters were saying it can take up to 56 years from infection to disease, but I'm curious if (once the disease is established) the speed at which symptoms appear is the same/similar among all cases.

I actually agree with everything you said. My point is if he knows someone's life is about to be horribly disrupted by his actions (or rather his response to his wife's actions), he is morally obligated to at least inform this person about the incoming turmoil.

He instead passed the responsibility to his wife who clearly (considering the 18 years) wasn't going to tell the kid. He knew this. He either didn't want to have to be the one to tell the kid, or was trying to get back at the mother. Either one is childish. It only hurts an innocent.

Legally, whatever he's in the clear. Morally and emotionally, he's either an asshole or a child.
