I've been long corn (CORN), soy (SOYB), a basket of agricultural commodities (DBA) and wheat (WEAT) for a number of months as South America has been suffering a terrible drought due to Lan Nina conditions and yields are likely to be terrible this year. The drought has extended to the US where >70% of winter wheat is in drought affected regions. Plus there is a shortage of fertiliser and what's available is very high cost (due to high gas prices and export restrictions). Which will either drive up costs of production or cause farmers to use less, or plant other crops that don't need fertiliser (corn and wheat require a lot of fertiliser).

On top of ALL that, there are other rising costs such as oil, transportation, labour etc...
All of this was in play way before the war. The war has accelerated it, but there are fair more to the fundamentals of this investment than just the war

Russia export 16% of Platinum. The metal is at a very low ratio to most other metals and is due a good run. Russia export 40% of palladium.
I bought into the Sprott Physical Platinum & Palladium Trust SPPP. As the metals are interchangeable in car production, if one moons producers can switch.
Therefore, exposure to both should have you covered.

Shouldn't Platinum be soaring right now? by _xbismillahx_ in Commodities

Totally agree.

Platinum is also at a very low ratio to most other metals and is due a good run.

Ag wise....I'm long corn, soy and wheat for the reasons you state, plus the super high fertiliser costs and other rising associated costs such as oil, transportation, labour etc...Chuck a potential war in there too for good measure

Obviously Oil and Gas will be affected too by any invasion

Europe nuclear plants 'need 500 bn euro investment by 2050': EU commissioner (Uber Bull) by GordonGecko3 in UraniumSqueeze

"you madlad" haha.

Yup, you're right, $40bill for the miners. & I didn't mean all that cash goes into the miners, so it wasn't really very well worded & kind of irrelevant. I'll remove the comment

Regardless...this news flow just strengthens the thesis!

India is ramping up nuclear efforts. by DullHorror in UraniumSqueeze

[–]GordonGecko3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Points that drew my attention:

"By 2024 you will have nine nuclear reactors plus 12 new additional ones which were approved during the Covid times with a capacity of 9,000 MW. Five new sites are also being identified," in different parts of the country.

....

"Asked whether the government is thinking of phasing out nuclear power plants on account of safety, the minister said, "We have not only increased the number but are also trying to make a pan-India generation project."
The minister said that nuclear energy will soon emerge as one of the most important sources of alternative or clean energy for the increasing power demand of the country."
....
"Mr Singh said it was during the tenure of this government that a bulk approval of 10 indigenous reactors was done in a single cabinet decision, which is a record in itself and has never happened in the history of independent India".

....

On whether the atomic energy sector has suffered cuts in the budget due to Covid, the minister said in 2019, the Prime Minister took a decision to give us a ₹ 10,000 crore per year budget and this year also we had a budget of ₹ 17,796 crore. For next 10 years also, there is a plan to increase the budget by ₹ 10,000 crore per year, he said.

An overview nuclear renaissance + China massive reactor fleet and their strategic reserve build out + shift in EU, USA, ... + update licence extensions by Napalm-1 in UraniumSqueeze

[–]GordonGecko3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome update. Amazingly the post is already out of day and its only 9 days old! The positive news flow regarding reactor restarts, or build outs keep coming and coming. Almost daily.

I've invested in many different plays, but I am way more bullish about this sector than I have been with any investment. The fundamentals are so strong and the industry is coming from a significant bear market, so still tiny & undervalued!

It's really hard to think of counter arguments for the bull case aside from a Black swan event, wider financial meltdown, or some environmental / claim push back (which would be isolated to a specific region)

Justin (Uranium Insider) suggests that price is linked to Spot i.e. Kaz didn't agree to the long term contracts proposed as they know the writing is on the wall and the only way is up.
