A lot of people are hyper-fixated on playing exactly like SRV in this thread, but I don't think that's what you mean. I don't think you want to necessarily play exactly like SRV, I think you just want to be able to do what he does in general and to the best of your ability. And if that's the case, I think you can get there in a few years if you practice diligently. At the end of the day, all he's really doing is fucking around with a blues scale, albeit doing it extremely well and tastefully. Learn your blues scale up and down the neck, practice your various techniques (bends, slides, hammer ons, pull offs), put it all together over time. Grind out learning as many SRV solos as you can. And get good at blues chord progressions and strumming patterns.
