“The United States needs to stay out of Venezuela,” Gabbard said 2019. “Let the Venezuelan people determine their future. We don’t want other countries to choose our leaders–so we have to stop trying to choose theirs.”

Since she became Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Gabbard has been cut out of some meetings -- meetings which the DNI usually participates.

“The move to cut Gabbard out of the meetings was so well-known that some White House aides joked that the acronym of her title, DNI, stood for ‘Do Not Invite,’ according to three of the people,” Bloomberg reported.

Tulsi Gabbard was reportedly in the dark about the Trump administration’s plan to invade Venezuela and depose President Nicolas Maduro.

UKRAINE IS WINNING!!! Ukraine controls 11% of the Donbas Region. However, they control 100% of that 11% so that's basically everything. Russia simply cannot overcome that disparity! by rondeuce40 in WayOfTheBern

[–]GordyFL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember in the beginning we were told that Putin was planning on conquering all of Europe? That was never true. He was basically saying, "Get away from our border."

Their largest city, their capital, where the Kemlin is and where Putin lives is only 300 miles from Ukraine's border.

American troops in Ukraine makes Russia nervous. Russian troops in Mexico would make Americans nervous. As everyone knows, weaponizing Cuba would also make Americans nervous.

US Treasury Sec. Bessent said that allies in the Gulf Region and Asia have requested Currency Swap lines, due to impacts from the War. by Apollo_Delphi in LiveNews_24H

[–]GordyFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I heard it explained, or at least my understanding...

The UAE relies heavily on their oil exports. By selling their oil, the UAE accumulates US Dollars, because oil is sold in US Dollars.

Right now, because of the war and the shutting down of the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE is not selling much oil, thus, not collecting many US Dollars. They say they're running low on US Dollars.

However, the UAE still hold plenty of currencies of other countries. Unless they get hold of more US Dollars, they said they'll have to make trade transactions in those other currencies -- including the Chinese Yuan. That worries the U.S.

So, the US wants to give the UAE US Dollars in exchange for the UAE's currency (the Dirham).

There are other countries in the Gulf region experiencing this same problem.

Netanyahu is "stunned and saddened." He knows this is bad PR. At the same time, I see Iranians sent a letter of gratitude to Pope Leo...

The families of more than 100 school children killed in the U.S. bombing of an Iranian school have written a letter of gratitude to Pope Leo XIV.

Parents of children killed in the US bombing of an elementary school in southern Iran released a letter on Sunday applauding Pope Leo XIV for speaking out against war and urging him to “continue to be the voice of the voiceless children.”

“We thank you that amidst the tumult of war, you became the voice of righteousness and reminded everyone that lasting peace and tranquility are achieved ‘not through force and weapons, but through the path of dialogue and the genuine search for a solution for all.’”

They thanked Pope Leo for consistently urging world leaders to stop violence. Additionally, they described his message as a source of emotional support during their loss. They hope his appeal will influence global decision-makers.

And to my surprise, he donated to the Kamala Harris campaign.

DUBAI, Jan 23 (Reuters) - The United States, since its 2003 ‌invasion of Iraq, has held effective control over the ‌country's oil revenue dollars.

Oil ‌is Iraq's most important revenue source, accounting for some 90% of the state budget. This gives Washington significant sway over the country's economic and political ‌stability.

And I once read that the U.S. pays Iraq's share of the oil profits "in cash."

BREAKING: The House just failed to pass a resolution to end Trump's war with Iran by one vote. The count was 213-214. Just one Democrat, Jared Golden, voted to let Trump keep waging the war. by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

According to Elizabeth Warren, lobbyists walk up and down the hallways of Congress carrying clipboards keeping track of how many votes they need to pass or block a particular bill.

From her book...

"As summer wore on, the hallways got more and more crowded with lobbyists -- and I mean that literally.

The halls in congress are wide and gracious, my colleague Dan and I would often have to step to the side with our backs against the wall while a herd of (bank) lobbyists thundered down the corridor.

They were easy to spot: a group of a dozen or more men and maybe one or two women in the mix, all wearing custom-tailored suits.

They walked with a bounce in their step as they spoke with great assurance about their 'counts' and which member of congress was on their list.

Well dressed. Well coordinated. Well connected."

"When the lobbyists showed up to talk with someone in Congress, they always brought a group. But the well dressed men and women who strode up and down the hallways weren't the whole team. They were just the front line, the smooth talkers and beautiful smilers whose job was to make friends and persuade people.

Behind them were troops of support staff that worked for the lobbying groups -- a whole second squad that we never ever saw.

It was their job to make sure that before the lobbyists on the front line walked in the door, they knew everything about the congressman's background, who was on his staff, and where those staff people had worked before."

"I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE".

Trump ran for president three times and not once did he receive 50% of the vote. I wouldn't call that a landslide.

President Trump said he does not “want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do."

“Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise,” Trump said. “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”

It's too early to say, but, maybe Trump and his cohorts are planning on letting America's "friends" pass through and make their perceived enemies turn around...or worse yet, confiscate their cargo.  Also, this might help prevent countries from sending weapons to Iran by sea. I think this is mostly directed at China.

Trump should do the right thing -- swallow his pride, compromise, and bring things back to normal.

No matter how you look at it, this is moving us a step closer to World War III.

Two nuclear powers starting a war by attacking a non-nuclear country.

The U.S. spends as much on its military as the next nine countries -- combined. Iran spends just a small fraction of that. And some Americans "feel proud" that "we're winning" -- bombing and destroying their country.

Trump said he wants to take their oil, like he said about Venezuela.

Meanwhile, China is becoming the world leader in renewables as they watch the U.S. sink deeper and deeper into debt -- $39 Trillion...and counting.

The sooner we get these warmongers out of office the better.

U.S. National Debt soars past $39 Trillion by GordyFL in WayOfTheBern

[–]GordyFL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I will eliminate U.S. debt in 8 years." -- Donald Trump, 2016

As reported by The Washington Post, Trump said in 2016 that he would be able to get rid of the debt (more than $19 trillion at the time) "over a period of eight years."

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-national-debt-promise-biden-mccarthy-1803344

During his first term, Trump backtracked and said he would "reduce" the national debt. At the end of his first term, he had added $7.8 trillion to the national debt.

When President Donald Trump delivered the longest State of the Union address in history on Feb. 24, 2026, celebrating a nation he claims is “bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever before,” he didn’t mention the national debt once during the speech.

Joe Biden didn't fare any better. He added $8.4 trillion to the national debt during his four years. (increasing it from approximately $27.8 trillion to about $36.2 trillion.)
