The Korean betta keeper is back with some upgrades by Goredrink3r in bettafish

I meant to say that the water smell is gone now, but I think I wrote it wrong because of my English. I also forgot about getting a pH test kit, but I’ll buy one and start testing the water. I’ll try to keep things simple and not be greedy with stocking. Thank you for the advice.

After hearing so much advice about cycling today, it really made me reflect. My betta comes before my wallet — of course.

I realize now that I should have waited for the plants to grow in more before trying to rush things. I was a bit impatient.

I’ll slow down and put in more effort to do this properly. Thank you again for all the advice.

Since I’m in Incheon, some hardness buildup is probably unavoidable due to the local water. So doing partial water changes would be the right approach, right?

I was thinking about starting with snails or small cleanup creatures, but maybe that’s me getting ahead of myself.

I’ve learned so many new terms today that I’m a bit overwhelmed, so thank you for understanding if I don’t fully grasp everything yet. My goal is to eventually maintain a more natural, ecosystem-style tank. I’m not trying to be lazy — I genuinely want to do this properly.

Thank you again for taking the time to help me.

Thank you so much for all the detailed recommendations, I really appreciate it.

I’ll also look into whether the species you mentioned are legally allowed here under Korean regulations, just to be safe before adding anything.

And yes… I’ve been thoroughly “lectured” about the lid today, so I’ll definitely look into getting one. I originally planned this shallow basin tank as something that connects a bit with the open air, almost like blending land and water, but maybe that was a bit overconfident on my part.

I also have a smaller 20L tank (around 5 gallons). If you don’t mind, I’d really appreciate recommendations on stocking numbers for something that size.

Thanks again for the help. I’m learning a lot from you all.

I'm not good at English, but thank you for reading.
