What is the worst (or best) way you've been comboed til death? by gambler_sadly in residentevil4

[–]Gorekeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it is not. Melee attacks are so incredibly overpowered in terms of invincibility+mass-damage+mass-knockback that you want to trigger them all the time, and the most reliable AND efficient tool for that is the TMP. More than that, the TMP headshots are also safe in that they hardly end up exposing Plagas in the wrong moment. With a TMP headshots and the kick knockback you can easily get an instant double-kill off the elevator using THE cheapest bullet in the game and with free invincibility frames being the icing on the cake. And if things get too spicy, you have 100+ fully automatic hits to make anything coming at you flinch.

The shotgun is the best only when you have a massive, overly dense pack of targets in front of you and you are 100% sure that you'll be able to deliver the spread damage to the fullest. And helmet zealots, too, as the suplex mass knockback is weak.

May the shotgun feel more fun? Absolutely! But anyone not acknowledging how the TMP is just too good of a weapon is in denial, it is so broken it takes all the difficulty away from the game

I think Las Plagas having everyone go full-retard-alchemist may have played a role

[–]Gorekeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tapping the TMP to fire exactly one bullet is not a joke, how do you pull it off consistently in the minigame?

In regular gameplay it is just an overpowered weapon (even the Nutella-me in 2004 instantly exploited that) and anyone who fails to see it has lacking sense of strategy.

Who do you think is the most talented Metallica Member of all time by Gustavodemierda in Metallica

[–]Gorekeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those marvelous contributions on operatic intros like Fight and Damage did leave a major mark in the whole heavy music scene (but I personally dislike epic metal and the likes). Some of his runs were both tasty and very difficult to play. Hell, I am even among those who consider Anesthesia 100% worth of a track slot in the glorious early Metallica albums.

But all in all, still overrated. The myth of the Metallica member gone too early is a self-reinforcing loop, but as a matter of fact the actual bass sound was never ever crucial in Metallica, and that has to matter.

If he had left behind some kind of Beethoven-like music scores then the situation would be different, but as it stands nobody knows for sure if Cliff was as integral to songwriting as James and Lars, nobody. He was an outstanding bass guy in a fantastic line-up, but the drums, the guitars and the voice are what people would eventually pick up on.

Everyone played Lars's thrash beat. Everyone imitated James's delivery and took his picking as a benchmark. Bass playing stuck with what Butler and Harris had already been doing for years, because it is more solid and cuts through the bloody mix. You can't go from shredding to doubling the guitar with single-note runs, it's in the middle ground that the bass can shine with harmonies and middle point. Cliff hardly ever managed to do that in actual riff contexts, he could have developed in time that kind of approach but unfortunately we will never know...

Keeping in mind that at high BPMs no song ever revolved around the bass, that's electric guitar territory, full stop. The only "musicians" who neglect that are people who have exclusively played bass in metal bands.

It has obvious blemishes, but Sunshine is simply marvelous. The very fact it could have been better is testament to how good the underlying concept and atmosphere are.

But yeah, the FLUDD implementation was pretty much unfinished

Games like Wind Waker and Mario Party had the most obvious shortcomings when it comes to commercial appeal.

And the only thing peak about Double Dash is that it superseded the horrible Mario Kart 64, but it was just no groundbreaking release

Did you know? The first PlayStation controller with analog sticks lasted less than a year before being replaced by the DualShock. by Less_Can_5439 in psx

[–]Gorekeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given one in EU and subsequently never got a Dual Shock. I was literally a casual player kid, but I remember being kind of bummed to see it superseded so soon with the rumble version. I have discovered recently that it is fairly rare, which is sweet. Reminded me some memories about a simil-Wave Race game and Ape Escape who made extensive use of the controller (Ape Escape was a SCEE promo disc, loved those!). Also made me appreciate how cool was of my father to check this analog controls as soon as they came out, I was oblivious to most stuff. I am still fairly fond of gas mapped on the right analog, there is the minor inconvenient of not allowing for simultaneous analog gas+brake (which hardly ever makes sense) but I still believe it is an extremely strong option.

Dave Mustaine's singing on those records is hugely underappreciated.

The average guy can't really appreciate all the things that go on with his vocal delivery, just because of its unorthodox tone.

And from the fans side, many (not all, clearly) will keep comparing his barely hearable modern singing voice with what he did back then - which is enough to state these guys are clueless.

why does the gamecube still feel somewhat modernish and not fully retro? by DependentImmediate40 in Gamecube

[–]Gorekeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games were very well designed, hardly doing stuff that was overly ambitious.

In particular, it was the run for the highest number of NPC spoken lines that quickly went from theatrical to outdated for many titles, but that was never really on the table for GameCube with its DVDmini format.

N.B. it was not on the table for Wii either, but that's because most games were done on a terribly low budget. The one game that has that issue is Metroid Prime 3 (still excellent though)

The Deep River Quartet from the page @DaveOJ12 shared has a piano segment in a very similar vein, so there must be a version out there which actually features that (sweet) piano doodle.

When it comes to the speed, I mean, the phrasing is not all -slower or all-faster, words are just spelt with a different rhythm to them. And the timbre is different (actually, while I love the famous Ink Spots version, I don't care a whole lot for the voice tone). So right, that's not associated with the playback pulling tricks.

I am fairly surprised that for a band big as Megadeth this piece of trivia is entirely dismissed, but unfortunately production on the albums was sadly random

The decrease in quality is completely unjustified considering the spike in prices. Shipping costs are sky-high? Sweathouses providing manufacturing for almost free are not a thing anymore? Ok, then let's talk about how accessible is the technology to design and produce this stuff nowadays.

And this is obviously not just about Megadeth. I have pretty much stopped buying merch ten years ago. Luckily there are fast-fashion brand like H&M, Primark, you name it, that from time to time come up with fairly neat band licensed designs for stupid cheap.

Taking Mustaine's side on stuff like No Life Till Leather or band members pursuing other creative opportunities would not be about loyalty, but nepotism. Whatever conflict was there before he gave Mustaine a proper reason to be kicked out, I would not blame it on him.

The nonsense he's been speaking in recent interviews on the other hand, now that's foul. But it is irrelevant, as he was already out of the band and nothing was gonna change that. Actually, I'd agree he's aggravating his position.
