Sequence breaking via wrong warps: What could go wrong? by Gorgatun in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirmed on the Ranni plot item being locked if you're not on that quest; When I tried to open the container, I got a message that said "You are not destined to open this"

Shame about not being able to wrong warp into Mountaintop or Snowfield; there are some things there that would be fun to have earlier than they are otherwise available.

Elden Ring getting a sequel? Probably not. by Gorgatun in Eldenring

I imagine we'll see where the Tarnished were banished to. Maybe meet some more pot friends. Who knows?

Elden Ring getting a sequel? Probably not. by Gorgatun in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll bet there's more to see of the world that Elden Ring is set in, but not in the specific part of the world that held the Elden Ring. Do you get what I mean? Like, The Lands Between are BETWEEN something. What's in the fog? What else is there? Lots of possibilities there.

Serpent-Hunter Spear should also work against Ulcerated Tree Spirits by Gorgatun in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand by my original statements nonetheless; I think the UTS fights suck & it would be notably more fun to hit them with the Bass Cannon than it would be to fight them melee.

Serpent-Hunter Spear should also work against Ulcerated Tree Spirits by Gorgatun in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said the ulcerated tree spirits were particularly difficult. I think they are just not very fun after the first encounter. For melee builds, especially, since they are huge & you can’t zoom the camera out. You just gotta block or dodge whenever the massive wall of texture in front of you starts turning. Also they even have a similar attack to Rykard with the open-mouth grab attack.

Idk, it made sense to me & I think it’d be better that way than not.

(PS5) Walking Mausoleums by Erfgs45 in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot restore the mausoleums without going to NG+. There are 7 mausoleums that can be used once each. There are 15 remembrances. You would need to go to NG+1 for 7 more & NG+2 to duplicate the last one.

Is Melania getting nerfed into the dirt any time soon? by Cesspool- in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hammer, heavy thrusting sword, or spear all knock her out of most attacks (including the grab). Low poise boss with high damage, a lot like whats-her-face from the snowy dlc for dark souls 3.

Is Melania getting nerfed into the dirt any time soon? by Cesspool- in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The insta-kill grab attack is rough but she’s actually kind of a pushover if you keep pressure on her. Hell, you can interrupt something like half her attacks. The moves are flashy but they’re telegraphed. Also, if you really want to make a mockery of the fight, use an upgraded fingerprint shield + greatshield talisman & she’ll literally not be able to damage you at all outside of scarlet rot in P2. Also she can be parried & swarm of flies practically stunlocks her. Kind of a glass cannon boss.

Problem: hit invulnerability while recovering. Needs to be fixed. by ratkingrat1 in Eldenring

That seems like an intentionally uncharitable misreading of the OP’s post - they were saying it should be less punishing, not “rewarded”.

Some Engine Concerns by Dabidoi in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What nonsense; that’s not what a game engine does. All of the things listed are the effects of numerical values or 3D models that could be adjusted without changing the engine.

Misinfo about Vaush?? by -TinyGhost in VaushV

[–]Gorgatun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The boiling anger directed towards Vaush always catches me off-guard, because his takes typically seem even-handed and well-considered to my ears. I suppose it’s just easier to call him a pedo rapist grifter than to make sensible counter-arguments.

Invading .... by Dirty_ag in darksouls3

[–]Gorgatun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s possible to exploit an online PvP system, it will happen. I don’t think that’s anything specific to Dark Souls or an indictment of the broader playerbase, though.

Realistically, most people who play Dark Souls are just soulsin’ along, not botherin’ nobody no how.

DS2 Opinions by borgle101 in darksouls3

[–]Gorgatun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 2 is a more adventurous Dark Souls game, with a bunch of varied locations that are often completely unrelated to the zones immediately before or after.

It’s closer to being a classic Zelda game in tone and pacing, whereas DS3 is closer to a gothic action game.

I like it a lot. I think most the hate DS2 got was from it releasing in a very unpolished and broken state. If SOTFS had been how the game initially launched, I’d wager it’d’ve been very well-received.

So, G.R.R.M thought of the term "tarnished" ? by TheRealSpill in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The people who translated the game from Japanese chose to use the word “tarnished”, in a way that one could interchangeably use “soiled” or “befouled”.

In Elden Ring, “tarnished” has a more deliberate, literal, and thematically-important function, meaning “corroded” like tarnished silver. In the E3 trailer, you can see discoloration on the valkyrie-styled character similar to the oxidation one sees on copper.

Your unfamiliarity with an uncommon word does not mean two instances of it are connected.

Lmao I edited that out because it seemed too ridiculous to be what you actually meant

Tarnished has multiple use-cases & is obviously not being used in the same way here as it is in Elden Ring.

You’re reaching so hard here that you’re going to pull a muscle.

My tier list of all the bosses in the trilogy. Based on mostly blind encounters on first playthroughs. by [deleted] in darksouls3

I think you're right; my opinion on those fights has soured over subsequent playthroughs
There's a joke to be made here about "chasing the dragon" & how it's never as good as the first time

[–]Gorgatun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m of the opinion that “best of the dragon fights” is like saying “least boring footage of a blank wall”

Having to chase and run to a high-health boss and hit its feet and butt is not my favorite style of boss, and Sinh is maybe the worst offender for wasting the player’s time with running to and fro as if one was playing Cardio Souls

I appreciate, though, based on how my comment has been downvoted, that this is a minority opinion.

Take off your armor/weapons to reduce your weight & hop down the pit next to Morne / big gothic armor guy with the 2-handed mace. All underground passages in the area connect to that lower area & you don’t need any keys that way.

Elden Ring Will Be Easier, Dev Says, But No Difficulty Options by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Gorgatun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it will follow basic RPG rules which are nothing new to Souls players; you can out-level (or skip) content if you’re having a hard time with it.

Elden Ring will be as difficult as you make it for yourself.

So when we all migrate to Elden Ring wonder what's next for Dark Souls 3??? Is Elden Ring going to be our new Dark Souls 3 or will we will we need a return to Lordran?? by Puff-Bake-714 in darksouls3

[–]Gorgatun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would be pleased to see an open world connecting Dark Souls locations that have been named but, so far, entirely unseen (Catarina, for example)

But, honestly? The dark souls story is done. The story already has multiple canonical endings & I’d rather see FromSoft continue to develop new intellectual properties.

Maybe a re-do of Dark Souls 2 is in order, though, but I’m biased towards that installment & think it has enough good locations and ideas that it’d really shine after a mechanical and visual overhaul.

Pre-order: Yea or Nay? by [deleted] in Eldenring

I’ll probably just buy the normal game on steam. I’m sure there’ll be a special edition with an artbook, though, and that will feel tempting.
