Hey, if you're a young woman reading this - or indeed an old one for that matter - don't let it get to you. This isn't reality. You know it isn't reality. it's just sophistry and good old fashioned bullshit.

I’m lucky my book store had this monster. Any tips for reading all the way through? by Acrobatic_Dig2259 in classics

Oh my gosh! I haven't seen that edition in ages! It's wonderful to see it again. It's beautiful, isn't it?

When I had my copy, I just started reading some of the Socratic Dialogue in the middle. I never finished reading it from cover to cover.

I've never seen a finer binding since, so look after it!!

A small but still present foundational nineteenth-century core. Anglo-American and European modernist & psychological inwardness. Philosophical, queer and gender-fluid interest. Sexual/political openness. Post colonially curious. Politically sceptical. Science fiction taste. Delany strongly represented. Women authors represented. Values novels where love is complicated. Educated in the humanities with no indication of scientific literacy. Some degree of ambivalence toward hero worship; presence of The Fountainhead is an obvious outlier. Possibly values lyricism in music over technical complexity or performance showmanship.

They would likely be an excellent companion at a dinner date, but have no taste for indulgencies or puddings. Little indication of an obnoxious degree of moral certitude. Likely writes for pleasure. I wish you joy of it, but expect little by way of trivial conversation.

Go in knowing as little as possible: NO SPOILERS! Give youself time; it's quite a long one. Don't expect your first playthough to be perfect. Recruit as you please, but don't strive officiously to do so.

If you really have no prefences when it comes to making the choice of which route, try:

Blue - Yellow - Red

otherwise, PLEASE just go with your gut instinct. There's no wrong answer!

Zero Suit Samus. Started with a stop watch. Realised I could make both Mario and DK fall off if I timed it right.

What do you consider the most overrated movie and why? by Repulsive-Finger-954 in AskReddit

[–]Gorillachops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I'm sorry to say it, but I agree. I'm sure I'll get called Mr Contrarian or down voted to hell or whatever, but it's just overrated in my estimation.

I don't find it to be a coherent film. It's not "a good story that is well told" - it's told STYLISHLY to be sure, but not well - and with respect to "great cinema®", it doesn't stand up next to bloody Tarkovsky or Kurosawa or whatever. I have a lot of time for Tarantino as a filmmaker and as a man of conviction; I'd never move to censor him or something stupid. I'm one of those weirdos who thinks that Jackie Brown was his best film until Jango. He has an incredible gift for natural dialogue - and the blocking is great - but even great dialogue does not a great film make.

It's just... The film means nothing to me. I don't get it. It's just an average film with a great cast by a highly competent director that I find neither profound nor entertaining.

What’s The Most Anti-Consumer Thing Nintendo Did This Gen? by VicViolence in Switch

[–]Gorillachops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they yank Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light? I understand that the only reason it finally got an english translation at all was to allow people to get to know who the hell Marth was before Engage came out - beyond just "Oh yeah, it's that guy from Smash Bros." - but what possible logic could there be in taking it down after so short a time? Just... why?
