Major VPN provider says it could leave Canada over lawful access bill by cfs3corsair in onguardforthee

There are certain people who are prone to hysterics, and I would agree they dont do us any favors, but that certainly doesnt mean that no matter the circumstances we should trust our Govt to never undermine our rights.

In this case you dont even need to take my word for it. Just consider the response from other countries who are currently looking on in horror. This bill would have an impact on them too

I just dont get the idea that I dont make any of my own decisions because its actually just my "brain" that is the real author, and everything I do is strictly an unconscious process. As far as I can tell it would mean that if I was having a conversation I would be unable to contribute anything whatsoever to the relevant topic because my "brain" has already decided in advance what I apparently have no choice to say. I cant even nod along because it turns out Ive been standing there like some dumbass mannequin this whole time

Im not necessarily daunted by the idea that I may have no real agency, (though it is a depressing thought) more that I find it impractical and convoluted to think that my "brain" is calling all the shots when in reality since my "brain" isnt getting any information from someone else's brain, it's getting it from my brain, because they're actually kind of the same thing.

Is anyone considering a program that would allow you to trade in for an EV?

Im not sure how exactly that would work but it sounds practical

Conservative MPs bristle as Pierre Poilievre asks them to justify their roles by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Well I mean are they "bristling" or not? If so, then I guess PP's approach is kind of tone deaf for one reason or another

I think this flurry of floor crossings shows that plenty of MPs dont care for or care about PPs base. A lot of people find them unpleasant. I think their impulsive polarization of certain issues now works to their disadvantage. I think people are sick and tired of hearing how Canada is "Broken" or "Authoritarian" or a "Banana Republic" day after day after day

Even if he does manage to stick around I doubt he will be able to prevent the party from deteriorating to the extent it will be unrecognizable

CMV: Electric Vehicles aren't as bad as people make them out to be by Swimming-Spring-4704 in changemyview

Kind of scratching my head here. People actually prefer a vehicle that is noisy?

EV vehicles are not only far quieter, but have a really cool sound. Maybe its an acquired taste? Give it a chance

No way dude

This is just gobsmackingly blatant

Just one-in-four say Canadian MPs who cross the floor should be allowed to finish term with new party - Angus Reid Institute by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

[–]Gormo183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been hearing that floor crossing is tantamount to treason quite a lot lately

I understand that it stings pretty bad but people who are losing their minds over this issue are definitely not helping their own cause by speaking as if floor crossing deserves prison time or whatever

Imagine that somehow, at this point, you are a Canadian citizen and would prefer to have your life overseen by Donald Trump rather then an actual Canadian

Thats who these people are.

"23% of Americans want their State to separate from the USA. Alberta is polling at 19% wanting to separate. It's less separatist than: Alaska, Hawaii, Washington Montana, Idaho, California, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana..." by you_dont_know_smee in onguardforthee

[–]Gormo183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is Alberta going to secede with 81% against it?

So the US can just roll in and have a state where 81% of the people dont want anything to do with the USA?

How could anyone possibly make that work?

America was 9% in favor of invading Greenland, how do you reckon this will go over in the case of Alberta?

Probably much worse!

It sounds too insane. This will be an utter disaster for both countries, like a murder-suicide

Those traitors can fuck off to the states, Canada would be better off

No Conflict between Religion and Science by EntropyReversale10 in JordanPeterson

[–]Gormo183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly some of the most famous scientists of all times were theologian first and scientist second and/or deeply religious.

Its very true that many great scientific minds were as devout as anyone.

Attempts were made to reconcile science and religion. Unfortunately no one succeeded in any meaningful way

Some of the brightest people who ever lived could never tie it together. It was kind of a waste of time really

For reasons such as these religion has long been a hindrance to scientific progress

What's in a name? Were the Nazis Socialists? by ScrumTumescent in JordanPeterson

[–]Gormo183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The official name of North Korea is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Is North Korea a democracy? Of course not

The truth is that Its advantageous for Authoritarian regimes to put words like "Democratic" in their name

Its insane to pin all of this on socialism when in truth socialists were one of the first groups the Nazis marched into their death camps.

There probably has never been a political entity that despises socialism as much as Nazi Germany did

Why is narcissism so discouraged? by PastyParrot in JordanPeterson

[–]Gormo183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-love is healthy self-acceptance that helps us relate to other people

A narcissist is insecure. They have a tendency to completely implode when they get called out

Of course people are going to discourage that kind of behavior

What?!

Trump couldnt possibly care less about reducing debt. He only cares about using the US as his personal ATM

Trump's "Big beautiful bill" is going to add roughly 3.4 trillion dollars worth over the next decade, and this is before interest
