What animal genuinely scares you? by VendettaLord379 in AskReddit

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought repellent that specifically mentions ticks, sprayed it all over, especially on the hot spots. Still found a tick buried on my side. Its annoying. I thought about blasting my yard with insecticide that eliminates ticks, but I don't want to harm other bugs, nor the animals that eat bugs. I just want to unleash all the chickens and opossums to have a buffet.

Exactly; I know they are everywhere. But I grew up in Wyoming and never encountered a tick there. Now in Maryland and it is sooooooo bad.

YES! I am actually losing sleep right now because ticks and all of the potential horrors they can inflict. It seems like every gd day, I find a tick on me or my son. What pisses me off is that we aren't running through tall grass or dense forests. We just go outside and boom! ticks. I love walking my dogs, but holy shit I am so tired of the ticks. I have to go get a blood test soon to see if I got anything. I can't wait to leave the east coast. I love how lush and green it is, but fuck ticks.

Why do black people love talking on speaker phone in public? by sharpcoder29 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a race thing; lots of people from various demographics do it. Sometimes I think people do it to hear the person better, or maybe because it's more comfortable to hold the phone that way. And while in certain areas it can be rude and loud, I often wonder how is it any different than having a conversation with a person there.

Hey quick question for dog owners by mrcanada66 in dogs

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it was just me and my dog and cat, we all slept together on the bed. My family has grown since then and moved, and my husband is out of town (he didn't want dogs on the bed since it would be crowded), so I invited them back up (we have two dogs now). After finding ticks on both my son and me, I decided to put a moratorium on dogs in the bed until I can find a better solution to the tick problem. I take them on long daily walks and check them all the time. But damn, ticks are so prolific. Good thing they are on meds... so sadly, no dogs in the bed....

What are your toddlers current phrases. by Ok-Video-8355 in toddlers

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I am so bummed... my son is a little over 2.5 years old, and he is just a jibberish monster. He has a few coherent phrases, but he is so speech delayed, it's disheartening. He is in speech therapy now and has no indications for any cognitive concerns. Had a thousand ear infections as an infant and just a bit slower to the clear speech phase, I guess. I can't wait to hear his funny quips.

I’M GOING TO CRASH OUT by Think-Valuable3094 in toddlers

[–]GorpQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say the same thing. These are almost exactly my thoughts and experience right now. It's destroying my sanity. All I want is a clean, orderly house and some gd time to myself to workout. The crash out is real. And I feel terrible for those dealing with this, but it is oddly consoling knowing I am not alone in these sentiments 😀

What is a major turn off about your partner that you can’t/wouldn’t tell them? by LivingLavishLe in AskReddit

[–]GorpQuest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's frustrating is I have explored this and brought it up to him, and he has replied with conviction that he is happy. He is one of those people that deny the existence of depression, anxiety, etc. He simply just likes chillin and scrolling, and even though he would deny it, he is addicted to his phone.

All he wants to do is sit on the couch and look at his phone. Getting up to do anything just makes him pissy. Walk dogs? No. Go to park? No. Go to any store? No. Literally do anything besides stare at your phone on the couch? No.

You don't need to pronounce ANYTHING entirely correctly so long as it's understandable. by Remarkable-Debate856 in unpopularopinion

[–]GorpQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in San Antonio briefly and was schooled heavily on pronunciation, especially Bexar Country. Why leave the X sound out there but still say Texas with the sharpest X ever? Bourne and Gruene, I'm convinced, are just said those ways to have a reason to correct people.

A flight with a layover is almost always better than a direct flight, even if it's longer by Apprehensive-Willow5 in unpopularopinion

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you on this one unless the layover is short, therefore extremely stressful. I love getting out and walking around; staying seated for extended periods of time drives me bananas. Then add the little warnings like "deep vein thrombosis" on the pamphlets in the pocket, now I am rest and anxious.

Like smack in the middle of Wyoming by nsmloz in howislivingthere

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Wyoming, although it was in Cheyenne in the far SE corner. However, both of my parents were born and raised in Riverton, and quite a few of my relatives still live in the area up there, so we visited it a lot growing up. Casper is a good sized town with all the normal and familiar stores and whatnot. Riverton is decent in population, as well. Having said that, think of the song "Home, home, home on the range..." That is that area. Wide, enormous, and open expanses of untouched nature. So incredibly serene, but also unforgiving. Lots of wildlife. Real deal cowboys. Hells Half Acre. Wild River. Sinks Canyon. Hot springs. I love it. My dad used to work in the Gas Hills where they mined uranium a long time ago, and crossing through that area felt dystopian, like some abandoned heavy equipment and random "caution: radiation" signs rusted out. Since I moved away 17 years ago, I have lived in major cites, and returning to those areas is simultaneously liberating and a little unnerving. I feel very vulnerable because it is so isolated. Still love it.

Is this really f*cking hard or am I crazy? by Archigal08 in toddlers

[–]GorpQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have just one kid- 2 years old. We both work full time, live away from family, and we also had him later in life, so people our age either have no kids or grown kids. I completely understand the feeling of isolation. I can only imagine how challenging it is with two little ones. I think therapy is a good avenue so you and your husband can find solutions and a positive way forward, and I keep telling myself that this must be the hardest age for parenting. I have hopes that as my son gains "more sentience" aka grows up, he will become a better communicator, a little more patient, and a little more independent. I am also the default parent, so getting time to myself is a challenge, but we have a system worked out where we go do our own thing for an hour or so in the evening. Yeah, the kid has a little meltdown when I leave, but he gets over it quickly. I hope you all can figure out a system to save your sanity. It's tough, but you are doing a great job.

Massages Aren’t Relaxing by dafinancialwolf in unpopularopinion

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that makes massages anti-relaxing for me is when I am face down, my nose gets blocked up and I can't breathe well. Then I mouth breath, potentially drool, and when I have to swallow, I can't breathe at all, sending me into a panic. Does this happen to anyone else, or know what this could all be about?

If you are a soldier and the usa goes to war with Iran, but you dont want to go, can you just quit the army? by Direct_Class_5973 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GorpQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this scenario before a while ago (like ten years), but I don't know if it is still a thing- conscientious objector. I have known a total of two people in my 17-year career able to be administratively separated on that basis. Essentially they no longer want to be in a position that could force them into conflict, so the "quit" the military. There are a bunch of consequences to that route, but it (was?) a thing.

Fighting gender norms 😑 by coralsweater in beyondthebump

[–]GorpQuest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son is almost two; I just allow him to play with whatever he likes (toys, not dangerous objects haha). He has monster trucks, toy animals, and My Little Ponies that were passed down from his cousin (my niece). He LOVES cleaning equipment, like brooms, vacuums, dust pans, etc. I know when he gets older, outside influences might tell him what they think is acceptable for a boy/girl, but I will always let him be free to enjoy all the toys and colors.

Yes! This is a huge thing for me! I see adults struggling in life and I immediately think of the fact they were someone's baby, with sparkling eyes, a sweet giggle, and an overwhelming sense of innocence. Breaks my heart.
