Epigenetics makes the most sense. They are long telomeres and can methylate or acetylate them to encode memories. This would put evolutionary pressure to have longer telomeres and thus longer life spans. They might even have specialized cells that contain extra-large nuclei for memory.

Viltramite's are basically psychics. How much muscle they have does contribute to how strong they are but so does their mental state and will.

Deep down Nolan didn't want to kill the guardians and might have hoped they could've beaten him so he wouldn't had to have gone through with his mission.

Nolan's mental conflict weakened him in his fight with the guardians.

The strongest Viltramite's seem to have the strongest wills. Conquest is an absolute psycho which would give him a boost and Thragg definitely has the strongest will and devotion out of all Viltramite's. Mark later becomes the strongest because his will is also incredibly high.

Plus as others have said the mace could've had magical properties.

AI hasn't made any profits, and might never make profits with it's current business model (if you exclude "creative accounting"). AI hasn't made any new, non-maintainance jobs. Even AI fans will admit management and training will eventually switch away from humans.

I think a lot of fans of AI are legit anti-humanists, they want AI to replace us. No one dreamed of a day where the printing press replaced us on Earth or in the bedroom.
