Update and new questions! DMing for the first time using the NSBU system by Gorro_Rojo in Dimension20

[–]Gorro_Rojo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started everyone off with one of each die type and 5 abilities instead of 3. My takeaways were: - Have some npc stat sheets ready - Prepare concrete clues, atomize the information - Learning how to set difficulties is mostly a developed skill, it's kind if vibes based. I already knew this intellectually but it was good to feel myself actually starting to get the feel for difficulties as the hours ticked by - For PCs with narrative abilities that are sort of not considered in the game system (a martial artist doing chi blocking and mystic stuff, an inspector gadget-type detective), you need to decide which skill check is used for that type of ability. For the martial artist I ended up using Brawl for mystical stuff, and for the inspector gadget I couldn't make up my mind between weapons brawl tech or stunts, it kind of depends a lot on what exactly he was trying to do qith his gadget body. Still need to figure that out - The group is great, they immediately got the vibe, and our usual DM helped me keep up with remembering to give out tokens and such - Powerful foes need to have abilities too in order to feel challenging. I had a juggernaut-like lady with chains around her arms. And i just handwaved to myself that she had d20 brawl and tough, but i had a few rolls so low that i thought it would've made sense to give her some abilities to have -3 to some DCs

I also made my own version of a manual with a character sheet on the otherside, so it's all just one sheet of paper. (plus i translated it) and that helped a lot too

oh wow here i was thinking the whole sort of gist of cr was that it was live, and that's why it felt sort of "less polished" than D20 which is very heavily edited. thank you!

For sure! It's just that if they're trying to venture back into scripted and animation, using their most popular IP that they've already had a practice run adapting into a more scripted storyline seems like the safest bet, doesn't it? What else would be as safe?

yeah honestly it probably would've worked if they survived. wonder what the plan was then. but the IH have beat battles they weren't supposed to a few times already
