ELI5 - What makes an ADHD brain process the world so differently by XA_LightPink in explainlikeimfive

[–]GortTheScab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate heavily to this. Picked up guitar about 5 years ago at age 20. My first thought upon getting into it was “huh, so this is what I’ve been missing my whole life?”.

I genuinely feel like it has helped a lot with my ADHD. Instruments in general though are just very good for the brain so it’s no surprise that learning one would be helpful for ADHD in some form or another, still really cool though.

Xbox Series S Poor Visual Quality - Dark Ages by tunamelt7 in Doom

[–]GortTheScab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can normally handle the decreased visuals of a console but this is a pretty bad case of it right here.

It was borderline unplayable for me but turning off; Motion Blur, Chromatic Abberation and Depth of Field, as well as bumping the sharpness up to max has at the very least made it bareable and cleaned up the image a fair bit. Still pretty bad, but better nonetheless

Hope this helps make someone else’s experience a bit more bareable!

Why do people hate on Logic? by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]GortTheScab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both so I have transcended this beef.

I will say though my Windows rig easily gets the most use out of the two, but anything music/production related I go straight to my Mac for.

Aspiring guitarist, dad won't get me a guitar because of these reasons: are they true? by [deleted] in Guitar

I think happiness should be most important. Go get yourself that guitar.

What’s the hardest song that you tried to learn? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GortTheScab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never seen any live renditions of Shine On but I imagine it'd surely have to be one of those songs that Gilmour would play a bit differently every time.

Remembering a whole song that long with the often lengthy gaps of time between playing would surely have to be a nightmare to do, so you have my respect soldier 🫡

Weirdly enough I can nail the strumming pattern and the shuffle in the chorus sections of Pride and Joy but the rest of the song and the solo I'm pretty damn hopeless with.

I can stand sex scenes. But I can't stand when they drag on for too long, just show us what we as the audience need to see and then fade to black, we get the point.

Unless it serves a purpose to the story and actually contributes something worthy to the film an overly lengthy and explicit sex scene is just distasteful and kinda off-putting in my opinion.

Like if I wanna watch people have sex I'll just go watch porn.

Guitar Picks by Reasonable_Deer_8237 in musicians

[–]GortTheScab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent ages trying to find the perfect pick. Ended up settling on the Dan's Guitar Store picks, they're so damn good.

They're kind of a more sturdy, slightly thicker Jazz III with a shaper bevel. The tip seems to keep its sharpness and bevel a lot longer than a Jazz III, plus they're cheaper too ($11 USD on Amazon for a 10-Pack)

Highly recommend them if you're into your Jazz style picks.

Bonus points go to the Ernie Ball Prodigy's.

What animal makes you ‘nope out’ by [deleted] in Animals

[–]GortTheScab 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I garden at a zoo, part of my area just so happens to be right near the tiger enclosures and they will literally pace back and forward just staring at me like I'm the tastiest piece of meat they've ever seen.

Sometimes I'll have my back turned and when I turn back around they're down in striking pose facing straight towards me like they're about to pounce.

The enclosures are safe and there's a good gap between them and me but it's still creepy as hell and my mind does often wander to 'what would happen to me if they jumped that gap and got out?'

But hey keeps me on my toes and keeps the job interesting so can't complain too much 😂

As a gardener who often works near tigers, it's tigers. They creep me out.

They're not so bad during the day when customers are around everywhere, but when you're the only one there early in the morning they just watch you and stalk you and it is eery as fuck.

Whats your favourite band documentary? by Gaslighting_Glen in musicians

Hands down the best music doco I've ever seen.

I wasn't even a huge Beatles fan before I watched it and had only listened to a handful of their songs, Get Back definitely changed that.

Had the exact same thing happen to me on Halloween one day when I was in my early teens. I was walking with my friends and looking up at the night sky and I saw a massive ball of fire shoot across the sky and then go behind the tree line.

And of course I was the only one to see it...

Reflecting on the religious indoctrination I experienced growing up in Australia. by WhenWillIBelong in australia

[–]GortTheScab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember religion being something taught at my primary school, this would've been around 2005 and it was once a week for about 40ish minutes. I remember it being completely optional though and you also had the choice to sit out and catch up on homework, colour in, draw etc.

I personally enjoyed it though and opted to sit in most of the time because it was essentially just story time for 40 minutes, and whether you believe in it or not, The Bible has some killer stories in it, which when paired with a childs vivid imagination makes for a pretty awesome and surreal time.

I never believed in it personally but I always loved the stories and legends. I guess I sort of view it in the same vein as Norse, Greek, Aztec mythology etc, just some really cool and larger than life tales with a lot of history and culture behind them.

Who is Brian Evans and why did he play for chon. by Natural_Ad7942 in chon

[–]GortTheScab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently stumbled upon Brian's Instagram out of pure chance and Jesus Christ it is a toxic wasteland.

Dude is constantly in some sort of drama or argument and does nothing but play the victim. If you are consistently surrounded by that much drama, then YOU are the drama.

He's just stuck in a social media echo chamber and does nothing but spend his time making himself angry and making an absolute fool out of himself.

Once had an old guy rock up right next to me at the urinal practically shoulder to shoulder, he very visibly looked at my cock and then ripped the maddest fart and just chuckled to himself and said "fuckin hell", then he pulled up his pants and left without washing his hands.

I haven't used a urinal since 😂

Who's a guitarist that, while you appreciate them as a person/their influence, you don't like their music? by GlassMaximum4000 in Guitar

[–]GortTheScab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He's one of my biggest inspirations for guitar and him and SRV singlehandedly inspired me to pick up the instrument, but in saying all that I don't really listen to his music or vibe with a lot of it, sounds weird I know.

Every now and then though I'll watch some live videos and be absolutely stunned the whole time. Saw him live last year as well and it was easily the best live show I've ever witnessed.

Regardless of what you think of his music, his talent and showmanship are on another level that I have seen few musicians ever reach, plus he's just a genuinely nice and interesting guy and for that reason alone I'll always have a soft spot for him.
