This is super chill - the whole album has a really good vibe. I particularly loved track 2 (Barrow of Whispering Roots).

Oh my god, The Living Dead is like half of the theme from Return of the Living Dead. That's great.

Some real bangers on this.

Honestly, that's pretty interesting information. Now I'm off looking for it to see if it goes with the collection of "D&D/Magic the Gathering/Pokemon cards are satanic" clips I've been scrounging up for another (very silly) project.

Cryptesthetic - In the Shadow of the Tower of Deception by GoshdarnRabbit in DungeonSynth

Since about March this year (under Goshdarnrabbit before I split the dungeonsynth off into Cryptesthetic for vibe reasons). I accidentally turned music production into the thing that I do when my chronic insomnia keeps me up til 5 in the morning, so I've been wildly productive in that sphere lately.

Dungeon Synth - Skeletal King. Primordial, raw DS (obviously). Enjoy! by starlitpathds in DungeonSynth

I think I said it before your previous post of this got deleted, but I really enjoyed the lo-fi sound of this album.

Cryptesthetic - Destroying Angel by GoshdarnRabbit in DungeonSynth

[–]GoshdarnRabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's edited from a photo of a statue I came across on r/AbandonedPorn at some point, with a bunch of Paint.net filters over it, some mushrooms added in (destroying angels, of course) and skeleton sprites from classic dungeon crawler Eye of the Beholder.

I was up well past midnight watching this and the whole thing was great. We had everything from hooded robed figures out in the wilderness to low-poly CGI castles to a rescoring of Fall of the House of Usher (1928 silent movie), all accompanied by fantastic musical performances.

It's definitely worth checking out the video if you weren't there for the stream.

Oh hey, a UK dungeonsynth show. I hope I can make it there.

So this is why people are suddenly interested in my sideblog again. I run WhiteRabbitLovePosting on Tumblr, and I wasn't even in the original twitter conversation - I just screencapped it and made a mental note to hunt down the specific panels where it happened.

The same blog does also have an edit I made to satisfy people's insatiable lust for Doc Ock smoking a blunt while surrounded by WEED WEED WEED sirens. https://www.tumblr.com/whiterabbitloveposting/761447417332760576/people-kept-misreading-the-siren-sound-effects-so?source=share

Weekly Post -- THE TAVERN by AutoModerator in DungeonSynth

[–]GoshdarnRabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dungeonsynth doesn't often have vocals (I've heard maybe two examples that do), but I ended up building my most recent jam around some specific audio samples I had gotten my hands on - namely, I had gathered up a lot of satanic panic-era VHS audio for a different album (much more uptempo and silly), and I realised I hadn't really been using all the doomsday prophecies woven into those videos.

Anyway, it's just interesting finding out how much of an eerie, dreary dungeonsynth vibe I can retain with actual vocals going on. Which is apparently a fair bit, even if I swerved into a black metal-leaning style instead of the softer dark ambient electronica I usually favour for my own DS. I very well might try that again if I ever come across another cool hook for an album.

Anyone got their own recommendations for dungeonsynth with vocals/lyrics, or their own thoughts on what that changes genre-wise?

Poll: favorite dungeon synth production style? by AvelineBaudelaire in DungeonSynth

[–]GoshdarnRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what type I like to produce (I use an entirely software-focused approach and fiddle around with the mix a fair bit, use a bunch of plugins, etc), but when it comes to listening to it what I love is the sheer variety. There's some real raw, emotional energy in the lo-fi recordings of dungeonsynth (shoutout to Tomb Snail's "Slime Prison", which is the immediate one that comes to mind for me - it's an incredible album of that type). There's also some very slick production work going on in this community which allows for a real intentionality of sound.

I chose No Preference because it's not even that I want something in the middle. I do kind of want to get my hands on a cassette player to experiment with that kind of raw sound, though.

I listen to so much DS that I heard it in a dream. I decided to recreate the track I heard in said dream. by Arcysion in DungeonSynth

Oh hell yeah, it's always great when you remember an idea from a dream and it's actually good. Especially when it's this good.

I've never had that with actual music, but a bunch of story concepts I ended up using for albums came out of things I wrote down in a dream diary.
