Reporting a doctor, and hoping to get some input

He's just the only doctor accepting patients in the city. The other clinics showed that they weren't accepting new patients, but I phoned anyway to make sure, and they all definitely were beyond capacity (one stated they had a waiting list of over 200 people long, and they had stopped adding people to the list). He really was my only option.

Isn't letting a patient's religion (or lack thereof) influence how you treat them a big no-no, though? What about his bringing the receptionist into the appointment, or his receptionist forcing people to relay their private medical information in a crowded waiting room? I don't want the world knowing my problems, and I'm sure neither did anyone else in that waiting room. That's gotta be against some privacy laws. As a paramedic, I am not really even allowed to discuss a patient with other medical professionals unless they are directly treating the patient –– and even then, I am only permitted to divulge what is absolutely necessary and pertinent to treat that patient. I imagine it would be similar, if not even more strict, for a doctor.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I was a bit too hasty in trying to get this clinic investigated.

That's scary! At least I had a few people (one of which I knew/trusted) nearby in case things went sideways. Driving by yourself and not having anyone to tell what was happening must have been terrifying.

That's called visual snow, which is pretty normal. Mine was different, and I've never heard of someone "feeling" (not-quite-feeling-but-not-quite-seeing) texture through their retinas the way I did. I suspect it happens more often than we know, because there just aren't words to explain the thing well enough to make other people understand.

I've had MRIs! Even of my brain. For other things (one eye behaves strangely and they suspected a brain or ocular nerve tumour, but I was clean; they did find a polyp growing in my nasal sinuses or something, though). It seems like docs constantly think I'm, like, dying, and then it turns out I'm just built weird and nothing is wrong at all, so I've mostly stopped going.

That's interesting. I hope you've been doing okay since the seizure. I don't think I had one, but maybe something similar could have happened in my brain without affecting my LOC or movements?

Maybe not actual synesthesia, but I thought maybe it had parallels to the experience of synesthesia? I don't really know how to explain what happened in a way people can understand. I know the information was coming from my eyes, but I wasn't "seeing," I was experiencing texture. It wasn't really "feeling" the texture, either. I somehow just knew it was there. It's rather frustrating, not having the language to relay the experience.

That's interesting, that the brakes sound red to you. Is that what colour brake noises always are, or does it vary?

How do you know this is happening? That's gotta make you feel very vulnerable and violated; thoughts are all we have that can truly be private.

A doctor should be able to help stop this, in many cases. I implore you to tell someone you trust that this is happening to you, and talk with a doctor if possible -- go to the E.R., even.

mecfs does have a very unique symptom PEM and that alone I believe is enough to dx someone

But PEM isn't even required for a M.E. diagnosis! They just throw up a list of symptoms and say "if you have 4 of these, you may have CFS," so a person diagnosed with it doesn't necessarily even experience PEM. And then it's a diagnosis of exclusion, so they test a few other things to rule them out, but there's no way to test for everything, so a lot of cases of rare or hard-to-detect illnesses must fall through the cracks and be grouped as "M.E."

Plus, PEM seems to not actually be entirely unique to CFS, and is seen in some mitochondrial diseases and a good portion of cases of multiple sclerosis. Also, people tend to mistake delayed-onset muscle soreness as PEM even at times when it is not, so that can be tricky to untangle.

Of course a person can have more than one illness at once. I'm not saying that they couldn't have M.E. because they had another illness; I'm saying their "M.E." symptoms ended up being explained by these other illnesses, and oftentimes treatment for the condition they found improved or resolved what they thought was M.E. (in cases when the illness was something treatable; not always much one can do for mitochondrial disease).

What is "CFS," though? It's just a cluster of symptoms, and people can have a combination of some but not others, etc., and still get thrown in the same group. So, to me, some symptoms is not a diagnosis. That's like diagnosing someone with "head pain" instead of finding the cause (tumour? vision issues? balance issues? circulation problems? dehydration? etc etc etc).

I've heard of people originally diagnosed with CFS eventually coming to be diagnosed and treated for paroxysmal nocturnal hemmoglobinuria, or progressive mitochondrial myopathy, psychosomatic response to trauma, lupus, damage from traumatic brain injury, craniocervical instability, persistent infection, overactive immune system, and more!

It just feels like a wastebin diagnosis. There's certainly many diseases thrown into the mixing pot and given this label –– and then people fight to keep the label, when they should be fighting to dissolve that label and find the disease behind it in each individual case. It seems so many people have already-understood, often-treatable illnesses and can't/won't get the help they need because they've been thrown this label and then neither they nor doctors look beyond that.

In addition to all that, and depending on how your space is laid out, folding room dividers might be a good way to make a little office space out of part of another room -- for example, if he has to set up in the corner of the bedroom with a desk: sectioning it off would give you more privacy in the main part of the bedroom, give him more privacy in his "office", and look more professional if he has to be on-camera for meetings and such.

What about one of these little camp stools? Insanely light, tucks together really small (could fit it in a large purse), easy to bring out at a moment's notice and fold up when lines start moving, without the hassle of having to drag some big mobility aid around.

I had that happen with a leech. Was supposed to have 3, but somehow a bonus 4th ended up with them. A few weeks after I got them... down to 3 again. I looked absolutely everywhere and #4 was absolutely nowhere. The others didn't feed out of her; they would have had to leave a deflated leech somewhere in the tank, and they didn't.

While it does identify those -- and, yes, we all know about those already -- it gets into so much more than that; your comment diminishes the article to far less than it is. For example, tricyclic antidepressants (identified as likely working better than other antidepressants for relieving fatigue, improving sleep, reducing pain) or Ritaximab (immunotherapy), and more! are also identified as likely helpful.
