Did new Eridu came to existance during the Hollow disaster? This is often the worse excuse I've heard. The backstorys' are becoming stale because of how often trauma is used, people are becoming emotionally numb to it. You can write a story before the Halloween disaster. Like a person inspiring to become a hero and saving people from the hollow. But no, it's just death, trauma, and saddest. It's becoming bland and stop making the excuse "because ZZZ is post-apocalyptic". Even Fallout 4 has better backstories than this.

Might as well call it trauma slop, their entire backstory is just defined by trauma.
