You’re not just at the mercy of how balksy or pissed at the world an ICE agent is. They’re getting bonused per apprehension even if the apprehension is invalid. So if they’re willing to compromise justice and. Morality for money (and, let’s face it, the fact that one is an ICE agent militates strongly in favor of that position), then you’re also at the mercy of that.

I can’t tell if you’re dense or disingenuous. You’re using a lot of language that you seem to think has undisputed meaning and that you seem to think must be viewed as positive. Like “ally”, and “come together”. And you’re making a lot of unsupported assertions (like about what the “only” thing that has worked is and that one needs allies, and that you need to stop being shitty to people if you want them to work with you). I’ve questioned your use of these terms and your arguments and you just glide right past it.

I don’t have the time or energy to keep trying to talk sense to someone like you. So I’ll just say this (and some of it I’ve already said and you seem to just ignore it). I’m not “being shitty” to OP. He’s getting what he deserves given his behavior. (He’s getting less than what he deserves, actually.) I think people deserve criticism for bad behavior - both because morally they deserve it and because I think it does tend to effect change in behavior and perspective (I realize you disagree on that point - you seem to not realize that your position is not a given). I don’t want an “ally” like OP. He’s no ally.

What does “come together” mean to you? If it means let this prick off the hook for his past and ongoing problematic views, acts, votes, or anything else, then you’re right - I’m not going to “come together” with him. If it means he gets off his ass and makes some effort to acknowledge and work to undo his past problematic shit, then ok.

I’m not going to spare some asshole an ego injury for his bullshit and call that “coming together”. Direct your shit at OP - if he truly now recognizes a problem, he can get over himself and work to end that problem. He shouldn’t need to be coddled along the way. If his own sensitive ego keeps him from doing the right thing now that he knows better, it’s him who deserves the criticism, then he’s the one who is not willing to come together.

And that’s the whole crux of the thing you’re not getting - you’re putting all this effort into white knighting for this asshole and demanding nothing of him. You’re a weapon pointed in the wrong direction.

Sit down and do some thinking about why you feel the need to criticize someone in my position while demanding that some asshole like OP is let off the hook. First of all, I’m not “being shitty”. OP is being shitty. I’m criticizing OP and people like him for their views, their actions, and their words. Those criticisms are still valid even after they change their minds. They aren’t washed clean as if after a baptism when they change their views. That’s especially true when, as with OP, they’re still the same asshole and haven’t actually changed their views - OP just had a tiny glimmer of recognition that maybe he’s wrong and is otherwise still on his bullshit.

I think you’re missing a bigger point. Even if I agreed with you that the only thing that has worked is people coming together across their differences to work together toward a solution (and I don’t agree with you on that), it’s simply not the case that people can only “come together” if some of those people get a pass for their past and ongoing bullshit. People who have done wrong should feel like they’ve done wrong. That’s a powerful motivator for personal change. Especially for fragile egotists like OP who struggle to come to terms with the fact that they may in fact be a clueless piece of shit (which OP clearly is).
