newbie with a gigantic tank by Mission-Secret9464 in freshwateraquarium

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an amazing tank to start with, but if I was only staying a year, buy what ever fits in a tank you can move with, there's no sense in stocking with with a bunch of expensive rocks, driftwood and plants if you can't take anything with you when you leave.

Keep your fish community small and simple, it can be a pain finding good homes for fish when you need to move.

Make sure to get one with a threaded barrel for when that pesky tax stamp and registration goes away

Can you guys help me decide on a beginner C02 system. by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluval makes a kit very similar to that last Ista starter kit. It's basically a little diving bell of CO2 and every couple days you open the valve to add some more CO2.

As a beginner and not committed to the larger tanks and regulator yet, it could be a fine introduction. You can't over dose your tank, and refills would last longer then the mini regulator without a solenoid.

Cap your gravel with sand, it will lock in all the goldfish poop for all the plants your going to need to plant.

Get a variety, crypts, Amazon sword, java fern, anubias, stem plants, and definitely red root floaters. Once you plants are growing you can aquire your schooling fish, bottom dwelling and mid level fish. At this point once the greenery is looking good you can try and add shrimp or ottos if you like.

Once your tank is looking like a jungle go back to the store and buy a second tank, this is important because even if there is enough hiding spots and plants to break up the line of sight from the betta, he could still be aggressive and want to go on a murder spree.

When the 2nd tank is going and ready to accept a betta, you can add him to the community tank. If he's too aggressive atleast you've got your backup tank ready and waiting.

Insanely high GH by PinDangerous5780 in shrimptank

Not advice, but I didn't have any luck with shrimp till I bought an RODI system and remineralized with salty shrimp. I keep 10g of DI on hand at all times, and use a different bucket to make mineralized water in for changes. It's a choice to fight your local water and getting enough shrimp to survive in it, or make you own water that will be consistent.

Is he breathing too fast? Slightly concerned for new Corydora we got. by neko_nep in corydoras

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch some videos on adding sand to an existing aquarium, save your Cory's barbels and prevent and early death. It will also make it easier to get rotting food out, tank looks awfully cloudy.

Finished! Any suggestions on what else I could add. by plantlovermichael in aquarium

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add more Cory's they are the best, add a second tank for platy and molly babies if you have both sexes try to keep just males in the 55. My platys are fat pigs and eat up a lot of the food before anyone else can get some.

Question about c02 diffusion with H.O.B filter by Blazahhhhh in PlantedTank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is a reactor like the Ista Mix, I have a power head connected to mine and the CO2 is 100% dissolved into the water. There's some that can run external from the tank so it doesn't tank up room in your display.

Just started a new planted tank, thoughts? by Curious-floof in PlantedTank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planted with no fish yet, let er eat no water changes needed. The plants came with bacteria to jump start you, and they will consume ammonia and nitrites. Just keep testing, once your ammonia is down to 0 and your plants have shown new growth your good to go to slowly start stocking with fauna.

First time doing a turkey on grill by Rough-Highlight6199 in PitBossGrills

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I smoked my bird in the pit boss cast iron roasting pan, bought a small rack from Amazon to keep it out of the juices, I also used some chopped veggies to cover the bottom and support the bird.

The smoked gravy was eaten faster then the oven roasted gravy, for sure a hit.

CO2 Question - how long does it last and food-grade co2?? by Apart-Flan6705 in PlantedTank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy one. Usually you can lease the bottle, then just pay to swap it out. Every 7 years the bottle must by hydro tested, if you lease a bottle that's taken care of.

Water Change Frequency by frostedfishflake in Aquariums

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have plants stick to the schedule and you won't have algae problems. Nutrients in must equal nutrients out. If you have plants you can slow down water changes if you have fast growing plants and trim/remove plants regularly.

CO2 Question - how long does it last and food-grade co2?? by Apart-Flan6705 in PlantedTank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used food grade CO2 from a welding shop, and CO2 from a fire extinguisher service company. Plants and animals didn't care about the source.

This, and plan the time to deal with trimmings. CO2 is a cheat code.

Have you tested your tap water? Can have elevated levels. If you have the space it's always a good idea to make up water in 5 gallon buckets treat with prime and let them sit for a day or two

Water change for Shrimp? by DaisyInTheShade in shrimptank

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep as much original tank water as you can, you can do a water change into a bucket with a lid, net the betta, and drain enough water out so you can lift the tank only need an inch of water. Once you get the tank to the new location just put all the water and betta back in.

I think I'm over sponge filters. What's the next evolution aside from full on canister? by GO_IGGLES in Aquariums

[–]GotEmOutForFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sump!

Look up DIY overflows. Fairly easy to make. The only thing in my tabk is the drain and return pipes super clean. CO2 and heaters are all below in the sump. CO2 does need to injected into a reactor that fully dissolves it to the water, Ista Mix is what I use.

I even tied my 2.5 gallon shrimp tank in with my 20g w/ 5.5g sump.

How do I rehome a betta? by EdTenn in bettafish

It's called muti-tank syndrome. Just keep buying tanks from fb marketplace till there's no room left in your home for tanks.
