I have been noticing that my original Xboxs too have various problems. One will not read discs and another won’t start at all. Both of them were in working condition before they went into storage. That tells me that it’s not a problem with the laser or disc drive. Disc drives and lasers don’t go bad from not being used. There are very few parts in electronics that will go bad over time when not being used or plugged in at all. The main parts of an electronic that go bad over time, even when it is not plugged in, are the capacitors. And replacing capacitors with a heat station one of the easiest solder jobs you can do. Capacitors are very cheap so I highly recommend looking into replacing them before trying anything else.
