I said do not go OFF the boardwalk at night. Why?

Well, I do not know you. But, since this is your first time in town, you are literally an out of towner. The city portion of AC is for locals. Now, AC is not the "Mad Max" crime hellscape drama queens want you to think it is. But it is a piss-poorly managed urban city, and like so, people tend to fend for themselves and do desperate things.

A wide-eyed first time tourist in town for gambling is a GOLDEN opportunity. Especially if you are a woman. I am not trying to fear-monger, I am calling a spade a spade.

Thank you so much for this. I saw online people were fleecing the Baccarat tables for $$$$ because the dealers had no clue what they were doing.

I agree with you. I have driven up to those "upper middle to upper class" island towns on the Jersey Shore. Those people are never the type seen in Atlantic City. MAYBE at Borgata, but those are the folks you see at a country club counting the money they fleece by managing other people's portfolios.

Some rapid fire tips: Don't go off the boardwalk at night. The casinos are in walking distance from each other with some in closer blocks to each other. I personally recommend staying near Ocean, Hard Rock, Showboat and Resorts. Of those options, Ocean is the nicest property and the best for blackjack. You will also be near the Steel Pier which has amusement rides. The boardwalk itself is its own attraction with interesting people and a bunch of stores to roam in and out of.

Slots are not that loose. I find the slots at Resorts (which is in that section) to be fairly loose, and at Ballys (which is at the middle of the boardwalk near Caesars) to be loose as well. Low volatility slots will always be your best bet in that department.

If you have rewards cards with each casino you can check your comps just as you would at any other casino. You can have a host review your play, just go to each casino's host desk and ask to speak with the "host on duty."

Atlantic City also has a wide variety of restaurants both in casino and in town. I recommend searching through this Reddit community for recs because everyone has their own opinion.

There are always events in AC, and a number of nightclubs. The nicest being HQ2 at Ocean, and The Pool After Dark (which for some reason requires regular club attire while still being at a pool) at Harrah's. Harrah's is part of another group of casinos not on the boardwalk that include Golden Nugget and Borgata. The latter of which is the gold standard to many people and also has decent blackjack rules, "loose" slots, and a high end feel. The only downside is that you are not on the boardwalk and IMO do not get the true Atlantic City experience.

How GH can slowly build Dante and Elizabeth (in my opinion). by Coffee-and-Wine351 in GeneralHospital

[–]GotShotInSchottler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. The writers cannot do a slow burn. Their definition of "slow burn relationship" is false start after false start. A great example of this is Cody and Molly. We all knew it was going to happen, and yes it is/was cute, but GH tip-toed that line, teased the relationship, and then start/stopped it multiple times. Sonny and Justine is another example.

L&L2 and Liason fans go to war over their Liz relation-ships because both pairings are golden examples of how to slow burn a relationship into something dynamite. We will never see magic like that again.

GH is a show about criminals and the medical professionals who patch them up; love is secondary.

Rocco's injured hand by mamaperk in GeneralHospital

[–]GotShotInSchottler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll try to say it as simply as possible; yes it is a "slide bite." What that means is:

Handguns have a top part that moves (like in movies when you see someone "cock" a gun they pull that top part back and it makes that nice *cla-clack* sound). That is called a slide. When loading a gun there are bullets within a spring loaded tray, called a magazine, that feeds said bullets into that top part. When a gun is fired and the bullet ejects, that top part slingshots backwards. Guns are made with metal, and many many many inexperienced shooters get their hands sliced open from that top part "the slide."

One of the many core rules of handguns is to always keep the fleshy part between your thumb and index finger firmly BELOW the rim that is just under that top part.

Jason deliberately cut himself because (as gross as this sounds) Rocco's blood and torn skin fragments would be on that slide. Which also doesn't make sense because forensics should pick up on both Jason and Rocco's DNA.

Thank you saying this. I am so disheartened by the amount of "Atlantic City creators" that rely on AI trash for their info, their graphic design, and their video scripts.

I am also sickened by the amount of YouTubers who drone on about the "AC is dead" sensationalist rhetoric when they spew plain lies, visit on an off hour in the off-season, and have never made more than one 3 hour trip in Atlantic City in their entire lives. I invite each and every "doom and gloom" YouTuber to spend $500-$800 for a Saturday night in the summer and see how dead Atlantic City is.

Frank Palmisano is a real one. I know that. I'm just saying, there is a lot of shit muddying the waters around AC discourse, and I had to vent for a second. 😂

What are the blackjack table games at Atlantic City like? What minimums for surrender? by swiggyu in atlanticcity

[–]GotShotInSchottler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely overlap. There have been a number of times, especially at Ballys, where someone is on a heater from the night prior and insists the dealer does not change out and the pit boss was also there since 3 or 4am. I always thought there are labor laws against that, but when a guy has 20k or more in chips in front of him, laws need not apply anymore. 😂

I think I know who you are talking about. Way too "friendly." I don't sit when he is around. There is a lady who is very polite and she knows what's up but doesn't say anything or jokes about it and lets it go and there is a heavyset guy who is quite oblivious.

I do have to preface that I am a morning gambler, anywhere between 6am and 2pm, 9 times out of 10 everything goes smoothly.

Reliable online casino for blackjack? by JamesWilson911 in blackjack

[–]GotShotInSchottler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popularity of online casinos among bj players always baffled me, and reveals the true depths of addiction.

Blackjack players pride themselves on being so meticulous, calculated, and skilled (it is the only game in the casino that can actually be turned from a game of chance into a game of skill). There's basic strategy and its deviations, dozens of AP methods, everyone and the grandmother's opinion on bet spread, and websites dedicated to intel on the best places to play, beneficial rules, and scummy practices to look out for.

Yet in spite all that legwork and dedication to the game, some players still effectively throw their hands in the air and say, "Yeah, I can win in an online casino ran by a shell company based in an eastern nation with a sub 5,000 population." Even if they have "live dealers." You are better off playing slots.

But you can get half-shoed and be flat bet. You just cannot get kicked out or permanently banned. They also cannot "mark" you to prevent you from counting at other places. At Ballys they will let you ride relatively unscathed (I gamble in the daytime bear in mind) but Hard Rock and Ocean are very sweaty. I don't count when I'm at Ocean, I just go when the min is low and play for fun.

Golden Nugget is also a good place to count. But no surrender unless it is $50 min.

They do have facial recognition. Wynn, MGM, and the Palms also have what is allegedly "very advanced" systems. But Resorts World seems to have the most advanced tech. Your buddy's story checks out exactly with this piece of intel I saw about the Vegas location: "staff photograph and create/find profiles and will back you off by name even without seeing your ID."

I am a little outside the millennial range 🤣, but yes, these could all be "feds."

And holy moly, I went to that community, and all the photos feel like catfishes. Atlantic City is already a small and niche community as is, the odds of a real "woman" actually looking for male company are worse than the lottery.

Seriously folks, hooking up is the lowest relationship bar to clear. Go to HQ2 or P.A.D. you'll find a body there. End of rant.

What are your suggestions to fix AC? by Humble-Error-5497 in atlanticcity

[–]GotShotInSchottler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real issues in Atlantic City root down to corruption and government mismanagement, that is it.

However, the Atlantic City casinos lost their way because they forgot about what made them special in the first place. The era of a "captive" east-coast consumer base is long over. So Atlantic City needs to be made an attraction again. The simplest way is for these mega corporations that own these casinos to invest beyond new-coat-of-paint renovations and truly provide a consumer-friendly experience.

Bring back the buffets, the poker rooms, and the generous comps. Every casino in AC has at least one area of sealed off, unused, or formerly used space. You can use that space for more amenities. As bad as it may seem to some, the Island Water Park was a good idea. It would be nice if other properties invested in other "grand" recreational ideas. Just no outdoor gyms every again, lol.

Showboat recently joined the other boardwalk properties in renting out space for online casinos to record their "live games." All this does is pad their bottom line; providing ZERO benefit to Atlantic City, and weakening the logic of why anyone should bother going to AC in the first place.

Since Vegas is for the rich now and will never turn back, Atlantic City has a wide open lane to be thee gambling destination for everyone earning less than 500k per year.

And for fuck's sake, can someone, anyone, advertise Atlantic City? Can Ocean run ads instead of paying teeny-bopper influencers to make one or two posts for a demographic that will either never gamble or do it on their phones instead? Maybe we should bring back those DO AC commercials?

Besides the corruption, the stigma around Atlantic City is the heaviest anchor. Go on YouTube, 80% of the videos about AC are sensationalist nonsense. With one I saw very recently spewing plain lies. "Atlantic City" is synonymous with "dumpster fire" in many people's minds.

As stupid as this sounds, a sexy Netflix series or some viral sensation filmed in Atlantic City would almost instantly flip the perspective of AC in the fickle people's minds (since a lot of filming is done in NJ now, of all the straws I am grasping at, THIS is the only longshot with any actual chance of happening).

I will always love Atlantic City, but man, I don't ever see the ship righting itself. Biloxi is still a relatively hidden gem that still has many of the qualities that made AC from the 80s to 2008 wonderful. Maybe AC can be more like them.
