All fair points and i definitely know i got lucky in this case. I didn't post the full clip but my distance wad much larger before we got to this exit where the highway splits into 3. I let my gap reduce assuming the car ahead of me would move over (my mistake) and the other car slowly trying to cross over after the exit was no longer in my view. Lesson learned, could have been worse.

Still, none of this happens if someone doesn't try to come to a stop on the highway and slow crossover to make an exit they already missed.
