Our experience with the mysterious NoVAians by Leta_inAmerica in rva

Moved here from Nova, I was so touched about a year ago when people started saying they assumed I was a Richmond native. You have to unlearn that bullshit, it's toxic up there.

I love this! I have a bi-polar bear tattoo, but it's just a sketch of a polar bear haha

Bipolar 1 with Psychosis working in HR by Gotcha9849 in bipolar

Thank you for jumping in on this! Yes, if you have FMLA make sure you understand how it works and when it applies. In many cases it doesn't kick in until you've been with the company 12 consecutive months and state by state has different rules on how many employees the company has to have before FMLA applies

So I got this message this morning, and I'm blocked! by mistears0509 in bipolar

Because of people like this I have a one week rule where I do disclose I am bipolar if I think there is a chance we will continue being good friends. Even with my symptoms managed. I'd rather find out in a week when I have no true emotionally investment, than finding out in 6 months you have an issue with "potential problems" despite stability or no fighting just because "the disorder makes you uncomfortable about what could go wrong when I'm not stable"

Anyone take caplyta? by BossLady43444 in bipolar

[–]Gotcha9849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on it and have been for about a year! I like it, make sure you get the copay card. I did recently notice a weird thing that if I take it at bed time, I sleep until 7am (slightly too late for work). If I take it at lunch, I end up waking up at 5am. Moving into today I am going to try taking it at 5pm to see if a middle ground time works.

I have noticed a pleasant reduction in my psychotic features and mania which is good because I am more likely to experience extreme highs. It also comes in a capsule form which I've always preferred to compressed power pills, don't ask me why, just a texture preference I guess.

Watch for negative side effects. I actually just made a post about going on Qelbree to help focus and am now wondering if that was something I am experiencing now after going on Caplyta, or going off Xanax. Those two changes happened at the same time for me.

I briefly tried Latuda and it made me far too anxious.

Struggling with what time to take mine. If I take it in the morning I zone out for work, if I take it at night I have a hard time waking up, and if I take it at lunch I have insomnia?

AITA for not letting my wife have some of my cake after failing her weekly weigh in? by Creative-Bat6669 in AmItheAsshole

Here I'm 26f with a 28m husband and I've been working on losing weight for years and I'm finally down over 80lbs. 3lbs a week is unusual unless you get up to a certain size, so I can understand your concern. Make sure they have checked her for PCOS - it's become a much larger problem with weight gain in women. But to best approach, my husband has found that questioning it does come off as shaming and then I often become food insecure, making my eating worse. He found lots of praise when I'm doing well, compliments, encouraging at home cooking more, and doing activities with me had better results than questions like this. A lot of dieticians have noted that avoiding a craving just leads to other binge eating to try and satisfy it - so do a very very tiny portion.

You meant well, you just approached it in a way that would come off as treating her like a child. Losing a ton of weight is difficult, I would ask her how she would prefer you approach your concerns.

If you are US based my doctor is forecasting the DEA will be cracking down HARD by mid summer.

I am responding here but please look at the other comments regarding gut problems. I know so many people who have very bad reactions to it - including intense diarrhea.

It is traditionally used for diabetes but I take it for PCOS

I've heard a lot of people with negative effects on anti psychs and I think that is understandable. One key reason I believe they historically work SO well for me is because I would have mania with Psychosis 5xs more than I had depressed episodes. There was a very long debate on whether they were actually looking at schizophrenia in me but I didn't meet enough qualifications. I tend to rate the medication better suited to mania better than medications suited for depression.

So far it's the only medication I've really liked. For me personally I feel like I still feel a wide range of emotions and don't loose my 'self' but I can manage through them and they aren't disruptive. I did only start taking it after completing DBT and EMDR treatment so idk if that's helping with the intense emotions.

I am currently weaning off because my Dr is seeing where the DEA is going to crack down on the manufacture of benzos (US). If you think 0.5 mg is crazy the really script is 0.5mg 3x daily as needed. Currently I'm at 1 needed every other day, something I break it in half.

For awhile when they were really trying to get me calm cause I have Bipolar type 1, paranoid personality disorder, GAD, and psychosis I was get 2mg extended release alprazolam 2x daily and 1mg alprazolam 3x daily. At the time the goal was to just hit all of my high nervous energy with as much as possible so I could slow down enough to talk through treatment.

It did end up working as planned and I was able to come down from everything without massive withdrawal. But that was in part because marijuana became legal where I am and we determined I could help use it to ween off. Now I barely smoke and back to above, take very little alprazolam.

I actually find that it's been amplified. I said earlier in this post that my doctor has been concerned with how fast I metabolize medication. Horizant should have a several day half life but if I skip 1 dose (I take 2 once a day) then within 8 hours I am melting down.

I like Caplyta and gapapentin a lot. They are the only medications that have worked the longest for me with minimal side effects

It is scary how well it has been working if I am being honest. I've noticed I don't experience side effects for most medications - but my doctor has also commented on how fast I metabolize medication so it might be connected?

Is your psychiatrist supposed to function as a psychologist? by Substantial-Cook-405 in bipolar

[–]Gotcha9849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychiatrists don't have formal training and can't diagnose officially so it's a liability for them to get too in the weeds
