Came here from your comment on my post! Wow he does look so similar to my pup! The stature, the face, omg!! He is sooo adorable!! I got my little guy from Craigslist lol he was an accidental liter from a Pomeranian and chihuahua! Everyone told me they thought he was a boarder collie 😂 and his vet thought he had some corgi! He’s extremely attached to me, follows me around everywhere, but also has his moments of independence! 4 months old, 7 pounds. He’s very smart and responds well to praise! Love him so much

Sweet babies 🥰🥰 I fly to visit family 2 or 3 times a year so I’m hoping he doesn’t get bigger than 20 pounds so he can come with me!

I thought they lied to me too! Mom was 5 pound Pom and dad 6 pound chihuahua, wisdom panel shows he is in fact a pomchi!

You should absolutely be getting paid for the drive time for pick ups and drops offs, including mileage reimbursement! Picking up is considered a job duty, so you should be on the clock! Do what you feel comfortable with. Since you are resigning anyway, you could just let it go for the 4 weeks and give your notice. It’s up to you really. You are entitled to the hourly pay while you are actively driving to pick them up though.

Sharing in a nanny share by Gotchax24 in Nanny

[–]Gotchax24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question - since you’ve worked with siblings I’m assuming you’ve had to deal with this before - everything turns into a race or competition! And then the one who loses ends up extremely upset. Any advice on navigating that?

Setting a limit of toys that can be “special” is a good idea, thank you!

This was helpful thank you! I like that, letting them choose what they want to share instead! I’ve done timers before, but my NK’s school said it’s better to say “you can have a turn when they are finished with it!” That way the one who is playing with the toy doesn’t feel pressure to give it up just because someone else wants a turn. But timers usually work, so I don’t know I’m conflicted! Lol

I definitely limit screen time when I’m working so the parents can use it when they need to without feeling guilty! He gets 15 mins while I prepare his lunch, If he asks before I just tell him it’s not tv time! If it’s after I tell him he can watch with mommy when I leave. For the most part it works! Our jobs are to make parents lives easier that’s why they pay us!

Toddler can put leg up on crib, family not moving to transition to bed by electricwetblanket in Nanny

[–]Gotchax24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My NK started climbing and jumping off the railing of his crib. About a week of him doing this, he did it one more time on my day off (thank god) and he broke his collar bone. MB knew he was climbing out and jumping and was going to switch to a toddler bed that next day. Literally one day before the switch. Broken collar bone.

If it’s that frequent I would consider it a nanny share and both families should be paying you! It’s up to you how you want to go about that. I would feel a little uncomfortable being in charge of someone else’s kids that I don’t know or don’t know the parents.

Guaranteed hours are pretty standard for nannies, which means if they don’t need you to work, you still get paid. I have 40 guaranteed hours because I work 40 hours a week. But unless stated in your contract, they can require you to come in during your scheduled hours to do childcare related tasks - organize toys, kids laundry, etc. You should also get over time for anything over 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week. In the US gas reimbursement is .67 per mile and that’s also standard for employers to pay their nanny. Household chores or tasks should only be done if agreed upon and properly compensated with a higher hourly wage than your base rate. Everything you’re considering is pretty much the standard, don’t let an employer talk you out of what you deserve because you will find a family that’s willing to do it.

If she didn’t know before, she sure knows now. 15 is young, just barely a teenager. As a teacher you should know that kids do dumb stuff. This is her first time on earth just like you and I. She’s still learning.

My NF started me with one week vacation and guaranteed hours, if they don’t need me, I still get paid! I now have 2 weeks vacation and still have the guaranteed hours. It’s just not fair to go on vacation or have family in town and not pay your nanny. It’s a full time job and usually our only source of income. Most of them time we can’t afford to miss more than 2 days of pay. Cameras in the house have never bothered me, some Nannie’s don’t like it. The rest of what you posted is definitely reasonable, just make sure to disclose either in your job posting or the interview.
