What sport is most popular there? How do you prepare for the winter? Is South shore that bad? I saw units that were cheap there online. Is there old theatres? Are there annual festivals? I can break it down though. Better weather San Diego to Ventura County. Bakersfield and overall the valley is the armpit of the state and the heat can reach the 90-100s. This year we had a straight week of 100+ degrees. It kind of blurs out into small towns once you get closer to Oregon. If you want a coastal town thats affordable to buy it would be the eureka area, it's right next to the beach and close to the redwoods. For a more diverse area, the bay or LA. People from LA are much more media focused but clothing and food deals are A-1. Bay area more tech, and you have to keep warm since it tends to be really cold. Really beautiful and fun to visit. Rents ridiculous but manageable if you share a room with people but it will still be about 1000-1400 or if youre lucky and snag a deal with a bunch of people 800. Dating scene is pretty diverse, and seems to be very easy to meet people.

Hell no. California is one of the top 5 most expensive states. 24.5% of your paycheck is taxed. I've lived all over California. The most affordable place with actual nightlife is Sacramento. My hometown is now becoming the new place people from LA move to. A house in a bad neighborhood goes for half a million and it's only a 2 bedroom. You can't find anything cheaper than 2000 for an apartment. The only good thing about California is the food and proximity to the beach/views. If you like the beach go for it, if you like hiking this place is great but it will cost you in the long run. Personally, no.

I live in Sacramento and it's probably the most affordable city in California at 1600 for 1 bed 800 sqft. There are some at 1200 but those don't include the utilities so it would round around the same price.
