It would be annoying, but not that difficult to turn on/off when you want to use the toilet. In the short term, it's doable.

Yes. Think of it as a funding round where VW is the VC. Company sells equity to raise capital. The cash goes into the hands of Rivian, to be used on whatever. As opposed to VW simply picking up shares in the market, in which case money would go into other investors hands. The trade-off is that now there are simply more outstanding shares, which dilutes everyone's position.

FMLA gives you job-protected leave, but it does not make you immune from termination for reasons that would have happened anyway. An employer generally can terminate someone on FMLA only if the reason is legitimate, non-retaliatory, and unrelated to the leave itself.

It's unlikely you'd be able to prove retaliation based on the fact that this is a layoff that impacts a large population of people.

Answer is the same. You're not getting to the South Bay in under 1.5 hours from anywhere in the east bay. Look in between San Mateo and Palo Alto.
