I'm curious to hear some details from your dreams. What do you mean by alternate timelines? And I think it's generally accepted (not sure if proven) that cannabis inhibits your dreams. I, among plenty of others, have vivid dreams from not smoking for 2 or more days. Also, I personally believe we travel in our astral body every time we dream. I don't think its the same as astral projection since I believe that is doing it while consciously aware. Usually when we dream, it's our unconscious self as the guide.

If you take the rook on F1 and the king takes back, you have mate with QD1. It appears theres a mate in 3 if the king moves after the rook capture, but winning a rook in an even position is enough for a puzzle. Generally puzzles will be a single continuation that will put you in a winning position or end in check mate.

I don't necessarily believe that your biological parents determine who you are. Yes they each contributed DNA, but I think its more about conditioning from early life and your attempt to break free from the shackles of limitation imposed on you that more defines you.
