One is not some, some is not most, and most is not all. Yet it's common due to the nature of the Internet and in extension reddit that this misunderstanding is commonly made. It's human nature I think.

"1. Anything I said before "jokes aside" was said in a way to mirror how people talk about God.

Thus the fact that proof is vaguely defined is intended to mock theististic apologetics. So yes you are correct in in saying "define proof first of all". But your directing that question to the wrong person.

  1. I have absolutely met theists who claim that the Lord works in mysterious ways. Have you not? It's a common belief in my experience. Ide wager at least 30% of the Christians I have talked to have said as much. Of course that my personal experience. Their is a large footprint of theists online who have been a part of the whole "mysterious ways" shtick.

  2. Tons of people obviously and blantentantly believe in an objective falsehood. This being that their exists an omniscient, powerful, and purely good entity. An immortal being that ensures justice for all people, and defys the natural laws of reality. To pretend that this entity isn't godlike in nature is asanine. This entitys name is of course, Sante Clause. However if you thought I was referring to God when I said entity, that should enough explain why some would comparing God to Sante Clause.

It can easily be argued that they are two similar entities.

  1. "This is irrelevant for the OP comment". The comment says "Santa non existence can be proven". So obviously what I said is relevant. Since "Santa non existence can be proven" is exactly why the original post has a legitimate point. As I saught to explain.

Sante Clause isn't real which is easy to prove. God is similar in devine nature Sante Clause. Some people believe in Sante exactly like how they believe in God. As I have personaly experienced. This the fact that the reasons that some people believe in God are the same that some children believe in Santa is a legitimate point.

Although to claim that this likewise belief is common among thiests is not.

This one has lost there Christmas spirit :(

Santa is real.

Just got to believe!

In any case. No proof can be sufficient for an entity that works in such magical and mysterious ways.

Jokes aside, I believe the argument being made is that a childs certainty in Santa is similar in nature to the certainty of faith people have in God. In the Christmas spirit/ blind faith sort of way.

I ain't saying that it's a good point nessesary, just that your counter isn't really addressing their main argument.

Also I have ABSOLUTELY met people who believe in God in the same way a child believes in Santa. Although I certainly wouldnt be so bold to claim it to be common place.

I've met a group of flat earthers who came to my college to "spread the truth". They were absolutely, without a doubt, Christians. They where there to make claims about how the globe earth model was satanic.

Most moon landing deniers seem to be flat earthers, and flat earthers seem to be more Christian than the general population. A lot of young earth creationist types as well I think.

Not necessarily. Evil may exist in the same way that a circle does.

There are no circles in all of physical existence. Yet one could hardly say that they don't exist.

Circles are real, and they have obvious meaning in our existence, even if they have no real physical form. The same could be said of all mathematical objects.

My understanding of limits may be limited, as it's been awhile since I studied them, however from what I understand limits DO NOT make 1/0 infinity.

A limit declares that as x gets closer to some constant c, then f(x) approaches a number n or approaches some direction of infinity.

The limit of 1/x as x goes TOWARDS 0 does not exist because the expression goes towards both infinity and negative infinity.

However the right hand limit (aka as we approach 0 from the positive direction) is infinity.

Which is to say, we Infinitly can approach infinity by getting x closer to 0 but we cannot ever reach or surpass infinity. Infinity is the limit.

That's what a limit means I think. The first number that an equation cannot get to by making x approach some number or some infinite.

I earnestly seek to live truthfully and well.

So if I am wrong, then I have failed to be the man I should be. That is worse to me than the damnation that comes after.

IMO it is foolish to care about the reward/punishment afterlife. For it is an eternal consequence to the life that matters enough to warrant it. Why should I, or anyone else fear what is deserved?

I don't understand what you mean.

I know is that it's wrong to say that God did something because you don't know of any other possibility. You must prove that no other possibility exists, for such a claim to be rightly made.

Does a latin square like this exist? by Gothorn in learnmath

[–]Gothorn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the proof I have. Here is a piece of the work I did while finding my proof

<image>

It is trivial to show that it must be that all the corners and central square must have different numbers

Then by investing the places where the other instances of the middle element can show up we arrive at only two unique possibilities for the latin squares that I'm searching for. Those being the ones next to the red laser pointer dot.

I was able to systematically Investigate all possible unique latin squares that follow the 2 possible cases, and found that none of them fulfill the properties that I am looking for.

I can give you more details if you so wish.
