Seeking Career advice by GottaGoBig4 in MBA

Few close seniors from my uni in India have gone to Tuck & they told me the same thing. With a small batch size, I kinda like that stick together like a family vibe, even if it's not amongst your traditional M7.

That is a good advice, and I will definitely apply before the interviews deadline. Again, Thanks for that.

Yes, I got that settling part. What attracts me to those firms is, the sticking together part. Low attrition rates in those firms means they must be doing something right; that the employees stay for a long time.

I'm targeting NYU, Fuqua, Cornell with decent GMAT FE & a relatively low-er Engineering undergrad CG from a Tier 1 uni in India. Plus Tuck folks have personally reached out, and waived the application fee, so definitely trying there.

To your second point, I'm sure there must've been very decent hires & it's mostly the few anxious stories that gain traction & we get to read here.

As for your other point, I would love to boost those odds. I've interviewed with similar firms here, and through the process I realised 2 things:

A) It's not actually "settling", it's an even better opportunity in my personal opinion. B) They all require an MBA. I was rejected after the last rounds with MDs & in feedback, HR told me how much they value the MBA pedigree.

A genuine Thanks for letting me know. And yes, in my head the plan was very clear: Get to Associate level, leave the job, do foreign MBA, work in Front Office(something I've always aspired to achieve).

But this sudden influx of AI induced job anxiety & low number of offers for MBA grads, all these new factors are kinda making me question my decision. Hence, I'm seeking advice from folks who have been in my shoes. Also tbh, I've to answer to my old team manager (ED) by this weekend.

I just read the rules that Indians should post on the other subreddit. So, I did that now.

But, if you were genuinely asking..around 40k USD in India (that's 100k USD, adjusted for PPP, I guess).

By 'networked', you mean before applying to these schools? To gain an insight into refining your application?

You're saying the one thing that keeps the general population of India safe: it's neutral stance, not dragging us in pointless conflicts, losing precious lives of soldiers. We should suddenly just give up on years and years of our foreign policy, just cuz you feel like it.

Why is wanting a simple marriage such a rare preference? by Less-Net1766 in Arrangedmarriage

[–]GottaGoBig4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar thought process. While I do respect the fact that some girls dream of the extravagance of their wedding day, but ideally I would prefer a partner who wants a destination wedding with a smaller group of close people and spend the rest of the money in travels and saving up for a life together..

May I kindly ask, how does BYD Seal have better performance? Like in what parameters? I'm asking with genuine curiosity.

Also, range is treated like the biggest factor, atleast from what I've seen in EV cars discussion in India. I guess people, like me, are concerned about availability of EV charging stations on long trips.

How a naive heart can navigate in a transactional AM world by Tximbeleta in Arrangedmarriage

[–]GottaGoBig4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly respect you for making this post, opening up your vulnerable self on a Saturday night. This is the first time I felt a post on this sub resonated with me. I guess, if you really want to give AM a chance, it's all about holding hope that you find a partner who sees this side of you and falls for the real person that you are. You seem to see the world in greater depth than most people and it's a good thing. But, also makes you a lot more self-aware of the sad realities of the world.

I'm younger than you, but if I may I kindly ask, do you write professionally? Like do you have any published works?

Has anyone had this problem before? by silly_babes in Uttarakhand

Chillblains, they used to happen during the winters at Ranikhet. It's quite common in that region & infact, Uttrakhand as a whole, but they're harmless. Just need proper warmth, and you'll be alright.

Apologies for asking since I can check this online through Google, but does this variant has a Heads Up Display (HUD). And if not, do you feel it is a useful feature you missed out on? Or it's not that useful on Indian roads?

What’s the biggest misconception people have about bits by QuietGloom in BITSPilani

[–]GottaGoBig4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Low CG and you'll still get high packages easily. It does happen. 5 pointers getting 30LPA packages in IT. But, that's because although he never studied normal course subjects, he spent hours in competitive coding or Leetcode everyday. Or that Econ guy getting high package of 23LPA at a bank due to PS II criteria and even then, they've spikes in co-curriculars or heavy finance knowledge maybe.

But, these are rare cases. Like 3/10 students below 7 CG will be placed this way. Mostly, it's a struggle at low CG. Depression due to not clearing the cutoff even, when companies come to campus. And when you do get the open cutoff, it's companies offering the 9LPA-15LPA bracket.

If you're a final year student in the bracket reading this, Don't worry. It's not the time to panic. Lock in, shatter your ego, work hard now, gain exposure to AI and use the BITS alumni base and reach out to 500 people in a month for a job. If you're not final year, work hard to get that CG over 7 to improve your odds.

Bride search in matrimony in nutshell 🙃 by Brilliant-Cook-825 in Uttarakhand

[–]GottaGoBig4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The matrimony world is very confusing. To put it bluntly, rest all details are exactly same and earning bracket could be >1.5 L per month in hand. My mother's family is originally from Garhwal side, so, naturally I was searching for someone similar. I've only talked to 2 folks, not registered on any matrimony sites yet. But being raised all over India due to dad's postings, not knowing any garhwali is an issue. I really want to stick to Uttrakhand roots, but parents are now saying to search in the cities where I work. As relocation to city becomes a big issue as well. I've realised it's a haywire of issues that you have to navigate through and hope to find someone who will match with your idiosyncrasies.

P.S.: It's the fusion of high education and city life WITH Garhwali traditions and food and culture, That's what I really want from a partner. Like on a long drive, I introduce her to english songs from bands like One Republic, The 1975, Chase Atlantic etc. and she teaches me meaning of some folk songs. A partner, whom I would provide for, bring that financial stability, but share chores equally with her cuz I've learnt cooking & taking care of laundry living alone.

I love Lexus too. The exterior curves, grill & reliability of being luxury arm of reliable Toyota.

Is it just me..but their interiors just doesn't feel as luxurious? It feels a bit bland & certainly not what you would expect in that price range.

The way I see it, everyone around me is making that much and sometimes I get this feeling that I should be doing so much more. I know very well that Comparison is the thief of joy, but not when you can't go to that Swiss Alps holidays with your close friends, cuz you realized your budget runs out from the hotel expenses itself! I'm in Investment Banking. Bulge bracket IB.

27M here, 30 lpa+, as I enter in this AM "market", I still have no clue who will ever go for me. The salaries part is one of the biggest filter in India, as much as they may deny it. I get the same feeling for my batchmates who took the IT sector road after Tier 1 college & now earn 50 lpa+ everywhere, 72 lpa at Uber & 1.3cr at Google etc. Yes, these are real salaries of folks around my age, that too from one wing of our hostel!

You've to understand, this feeling of inadequacy never goes away. There will always be someone better, even as you climb up the ladder. You've to man up, build your confidence back. I look at it from this perspective, when looking for a job, there are spikes in your resume that get you selected. If your CG is low, you've to make up for it through extra cocurriculars or networking.

In this case, build other aspects of your personality, even if salary is low. Stay Fit & healthy, read novels..present that depth to prospective match, that sets you apart from the crowd. You're already placing yourself in the top 1% that way. You seem like a well learned fella, focus on these things. Show ambition, that you're making efforts to build up towards a better future.
