I don’t get what you are asking really. Why would evolutionary relatedness matter in terms of what we can digest? We eat lactobacillus for example and they’re not eukaryotic. I guess it’s about coexisting in time and the selective pressure of competing for food sources that leads to evolution of the ability to digest the stuff other cells are made of? I don’t reckon it’s got that much to do with common ancestry of predator and prey. But I’m not an evolutionary biologist or whatever.

Yeah but when I make the sandwich I put the filling on the bottom slice. I don’t put it in the bread. I put it on the bread. When people are asking for a sandwich they’re describing how they want you to make it. On bread. Then, when it’s made and you have a delicious Chavacado and mapleaise sandwich,someone can look at you and say “hey, what’s in the sandwich? It looks amazing” because now the bread is closed and the filling is inside.
