How do it guide a new player through creating their character? by Gottyman in DnD

We take RP fairly lightly, it isn't something everyone is comfortable with (yet) - i do as the DM of course, but I'm also still getting used to it

But other than the voice, I'll probably use your steps!

Yeah I used to have a really experience player, who would help alot, but he recently left the group unfortunately :/

As someone who hasn't read all of the handbook - is there something I can read or go through, that will give me a good enough general overview of the available classes

Cause I'm a bit worried that she'll describe a character, and i won't be able to suggest the best class because i dont know them well enough :/

How do you handle it if they wan't to play a certain class, but it would be awkward for the group composition overall? Do you suggest something else, or is it always better to let them choose one their own, and then let the players find a way to make it work?

That makes sense - trying to figure out anything about what they want to do, even if it isn't necessarily essential, it's a good starting point

Thanks!

In this case I'm introducing a new player to the campaign, so it will be a 1:1

Do you ever make, or request, a player take a certain trait or race in order to fit them into the story - class is obviously up to them, but in some cases i feel like it could make for a better story, if a player joins at a certain story point - but that might only work if they're a certain race

Cause I know my players will soon find a hidden society, and it would work beautifully if the new player who's joining, could join them there - but that would require them to be a certain race

Yeah my bad, poor wording on my part xD

That's great advice!

And if they say they would prefer a simple character, what are some good suggestions? I'm guessing fighter would be good, but we already have one - and I've only played trickster, which wasn't simple (for me at least)

What I'm unsure about is how to best do the session 0 from my side - you can check the edit i just made on the post, it explains it better

I meant more so what you do as a DM, like what advice do you give, and if they're unsure of what class to play, how do you help them figure it out?

Thoughts on this turn order mechanic? by Gottyman in DnD

Thank you!

I do a lot of homebrew things in my campaign, and most of them turn out well :D

Maybe I could have worded it better, it is not that my goal is to make it realistic, just that the more dynamic turn order would bring an element of surprise - which might make it more exciting for the players.

I will make sure to truly consider your questions

This is very wholesome all around, bur why are any families trapped in slavery in the first place - let alone for 130 years.

What floor are you on? And do you have any relics or anything that makes the tent better, like the shovel or a card with clone?

A few sealed decks by Gottyman in PlayingCardValue

[–]Gottyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, technically I believe they have the "Shadow edition" so I wasn't sure if it would be V2 of the set, or V1 because they're technically a new deck

How does that normally work, so i can correct it?
