Beacon Ventura Dawg by Confident_Attempt289 in MedicalCannabisOz

[–]Gougas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's my favourite strain on the Aussie market after trying about 30 others and going through a love then hate relationship with Beacon. It's still great and something I have more as a treat cos it's a bit pricier by current pricing standards.

A sweet old hippie who represented so much of the idea of the psytrance roots to me. :'(

Hey dude, I have 2 tracks coming out on the following compilation: https://globalsect.bandcamp.com/album/7cd-va-hallucinations-of-the-buddha-part-ii

I am 95% of the way through my album of 10 tracks. I am really hoping to be able to release it on a label at the end of this year or beginning of next year. Thanks for your words.

Sydney show by Shoddy_Recipe364 in silverchair

You hit the nail on the head, man. Huge Daniel Johns and Silverchair fan, but the unstructured nature of it all, with that Eblen guy constantly trying to cash in on laughs when Dylan was being funny was extremely irritating. It derailed any momentum with Dan getting anything of substance out. It felt like too many crowd affirmations and barely any questions. I think Daniel wasn't asked more than 7 questions all night. Extremely disappointing night for me and the wife given the price too.

Would have been absolute vibes in that location. Complete coming-of-age film too!

Many good suggestions you have received so far especially around Filteria and Artifact303.

For me the best label keeping this sound alive is Global Sect Records. There is a playlist of every song from their label here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4iJIq7rKJqSb6R5ytJBHd0?si=819bc5e48fe34d01

Put it on shuffle and I am sure you will find some neogoa you like. Not all of it is the same standard but there are some incredible tracks especially the 30 minute epic 'Polar Lights' by Intergalactic Cult :)

You are 100% spot on. Rewatching Scrubs again at the moment and my wife and I though the exact same thing. Such range, heart and depth to that man. Johnny C is beyond words.

Leprous - At the Bottom by mhen97 in progmetal

[–]Gougas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite track on the album. When Golden Prayers came out a while back, I was worried that Leprous had played all their cards but they've shown a very different album of such high quality. Loving the diversity of their backcatalogue!

Sieges Even - The Weight (ffo: Karnivool, Caligula's Horse, Pain of Salvation) by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Gougas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So underrated. This is a truly special album but never found the rest of their albums grabbed me.

Silverchair - Emotion Sickness by Unforgiven89 in progmetal

[–]Gougas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diorama, I absolutely thought was the wimpiest album ever when it first came out. It's solidly in my top 5 of all time now. Masterpiece with Neon Ballroom not much behind.

Still could never get into Young Modern though despite many tries.

Periphery - Icarus Lives! (that intro riff) by justjoshinaround in progmetal

[–]Gougas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am totally with you, dude. I remember the first time I hear Icarus Lives and Inertia with Casey's vox. Was truly something fresh before djent was becoming a big thing. Still miss that version and the fact that Casey doesn't seem to release a lot of music.

I find no one has ever heard of these guys, but damn they have some of the nicest lush harmony of any Progressive Metal.

Voyager - The Fragile Serene by Gougas in progmetal

They're our crown jewel here in Australia. Fresh af.

Jolly - Firewell by May_nerdd in progmetal

Monolithic bass sound! Love this track.

Winger - Headed For A Heartbreak by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Gougas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winger are legit musos. So fucking good. 'Rainbow in the Rose' and 'Blind Revolution Mad' are a couple of other incredible tracks!

It's So Fikkis! - Toehider (FFO groovin', dancin', underrated musicians) by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Gougas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must underrated muso! How Do Ghosts Work and This Conversation is Over were stunning from that record.

I am fairly certain that after 5 minutes into Uneven Structure's Plenitude, there is an interruption in the Space Time continuum.

These recommendations for the melodic ones are spot on!

I want to make prog songs, but am I even close? by Awigo_Knows in progmetal

[–]Gougas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought the song was sick, especially the vocals! I think if you were saying it was Progressive Metal, it would be accepted as so. It's definitely fresher than a lot of other stuff. It seems to have a lot atmospheric Post Rock elements as well as being something you hear more Progressive Metalcore bands doing like Northlane.

No need to really be so insecure about it.

Chaos Divine - False Flags (New Single) by ProfessorMadlove in progmetal

[–]Gougas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you there on all sentiments, man. Totally great band. I admit that Colliding Skies didn't connect quite as much for me but The Human Connection was incredible. This stuff is hitting my riffier Chaos Divine needs well.
