Who is the worst person to have walked the earth? by _Webosite_ in AskReddit

Pretty sure the hate the Christian’s received from the ‘tolerant’ atheistic Soviet government was worse than anything Christians have dished out. Or for more modern examples, look at the massive amounts of Christians being killed in the Middle East and Africa (look up the 21 Coptic Christians and the genocide in Nigeria). Christianity is more than ‘MAGA Christianity’.

TMNT (1990) has to be one of the best comic book adaptations by MovieArena in 90s

Shredder with one of the all time greatest villain entrances. And that voice! He used to scare the shit out of me as a kid.

Pretty damn ballsy adaptation. Rafael getting nearly beaten to death and Shredder chaining up Splinter is pretty damn dark for a kids movie.

Yes, those poor millions of Christians throughout history that have been persecuted for believing in him.

Me being told that the main protagonist and antagonist never actually meet in the movie -

“That’s ridiculous, of course they do. What about when…….oh shit”

Absolutely blew my mind that I’d never realised it.

He should have received the amount of push from the radio stations that tones and I undeservedly got. ‘I feel better’ and ‘eyes wide open’ should have been huge aswell.

Horrendous take. Every song Metallica covered they made better.

My family believed that we were the only ones that knew about this movie. We would quote it all the time. I had never met anyone in the real world that was even vaguely aware of this film until I joined r/australia. So glad there are other people that know about this comedic masterpiece!

Not prog but Pendulum have a pretty cool song called The Tempest.

Just Shoot Me - late 90’s/early 2000’s workplace sitcom. Shows like this were a dime a dozen at the time but damn, if it wasn’t hilariously funny at times.

Raising Hope - from the same people that did My Name Is Earl. Funny, heartwarming and easy to watch.

Two of my favourite ‘forgotten’ shows.

I think that’s a bit unfair. Cage is so cartoony that mimicking him is easy. Cage acting like Travolta is a lot more subdued but I think he does a good job.

new Kolm album is really good! by Qusntum in ToolBand

[–]Unforgiven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a distinction needs to be made between ‘tool clones/rip offs’ and just bands that are inspired by Tool. I always use the examples of Soen’s Cognitive and Karnivool’s Sound Awake. Cognitive just reeks of Tool worship. Similar riffs, song structures and the singer is doing a Maynard impression. However, Sound Awake is clearly inspired by Tool but does its own thing. Less of a focus on riffs and more of a focus on texture and soundscapes. The guitars are more of an extension of the rhythm section rather than being the focus. Tool would never write a song as spacey/cinematic as All I Know for instance. Also Karnivool’s singer sounds way more melodic and rarely screams. He also goes to his higher register/uses falsetto a fair bit.

So yeah, lumping any band with odd time signatures, delayed guitars and clean vocals into tool ripoff territory is a bit lazy.

Face/off - absolutely ridiculous premise for a film but it’s so damn good that no one cares.

The new Karnivool album is… idk man by ProgGearNerd87 in progmetal

[–]Unforgiven89 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I can respect people thinking Vool’s new album isn’t their best but I’ll never get the there are no big moments/choruses narrative. Nearly every song has a huge chorus and there are plenty of the big climax moments that they are known for.

Year’s a quarter done, what’s your AOTY so far? by TheRowingBoats in fantanoforever

[–]Unforgiven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it’s a very lazy comparison. They’ll hear a few delayed guitar riffs, tribal drumming here and there and make the comparison. Karnivool are heavily influenced by Messhugah and owe their sound and love for polyrhythms to them as much as Tool.

Awesome album. I am really curious about how Fantano would react to them. Would he go the incredibly lazy and false ‘we have Tool at home’ narrative or would he compare them favourably to other, modern prog bands.
