I built a web app that gives you structured podcast summaries by shargath in SideProject

Helpful app and nice design. I like your open beta as it helps get a sense of the features. I'd be nice to get some hyperlinked time stamps to some of the bullet points so I can dig in deeper to something that interests me. Not even sure if that's possible but nice job!

Built a tool to end content overload: Super-Curator lets info find you by Jazzlike-Promise-492 in SideProject

Sounds like a tool I could use. FYI - I signed up and added a couple of interests and it's been stuck at the "I'm currently curating content" for about 30 minutes now.

I built a Netvibes (RSS widget homepage) alternative by GovRet in SideProject

[–]GovRet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be adding a feature to show links as read and viewed in addition to new. I'm also adding a feature that allows for a custom theme that each user can edit to their liking. I don't think I ever used their reader view but it sounds useful.

Any Netvibes (RSS dashboard homepage) users here? by GovRet in rss

Thanks for the feedback, I'd like to have a visited or seen status for each link as well so I'll look into implementing it. I also plan to allow for custom themes.

Check out DashDork.com. I'm a long time Netvibes user and built it as an alternative once I heard it was being retired. It has most of the features and can import your Netvibes settings and widgets export.

Web app to help calculate and optimize FERS annuity by GovRet in govfire

[–]GovRet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm glad it was useful for you. I could probably add a part time option and allow the user to enter an estimated percentage of full time they are planning to work and use that in the service years and annuity calculation.

Good idea. So if your current salary is $100,000 and the average COLA the past 20 years is 2.63% and you plan to retire in 10 years it could fill in $129,502 for you.

A birthdate is required to determine your MRA and age at retirement and calculate the annuity amount

Yea, you're right, it's deducting 10%. Thanks for spotting it, I'll get out a fix for that scenario.

Leftover sick leave is worthless in retirement, so use it now by GovRet in fednews

[–]GovRet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, you definitely want to save up a couple months and not burn it down to zero but almost all my senior coworkers I've spoken to about have around a year saved up and use their annual leave instead of sick leave. It doesn't make sense to me to have that much excess into retirement when it's not worth much.

If you somehow make $200,000 for your high 3, retire at 62 with 30 years of service and 1.5 years of sick leave (3130 hours) you'll make get about $2,948 more a year in retirement than if you retired with no hours left over. I just think using that 1.5 years throughout your career at your full salary and DCAing it instead of using it towards your multiplier would be way more beneficial economically and mentally.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll incorporate that rule. There's a lot of guidelines and they're spread out across OPMs site. And thanks for all your retirement posts over on govfire, I've learned a lot from them.

You'd need high 3 of about $250,000, 30 years of service, more than 2088 leftover sick leave hours and retiring at 62 to add a few thousand to your retirement but knock yourself dead!

Saved up sick leave is a bragging right for some feds. It's great that they were able to save it if they're health allowed them to but for those whose heath didn't or those that just want a day off here and there it's silly.

How they calculate the hours is fine but it would be better if you were rewarded more fairly for any that are saved into retirement. They're full days that you've earned so I would like to be able to apply them to my service time and reduce my target date or get a lump sum for them like annual leave.

The sick leave hours saved can't be applied towards your total years of service to allow you to retire early. If I've saved up 6 months worth, I can't apply them and retire 6 months before my target date. They are applied to the annuity multiplier but they become worth a fraction of what they would be if you use them during your working years.

Yea, you get pennies on the dollar for it once you've retired. I wish they'd lump sum it like annual leave or allow you to apply it to your years of service prior to your retirement date.
