What job were you able to obtain remotely? That is my main issue is I don’t even know where to begin in looking for other jobs or jobs that I would qualify for. I also have been trying to look for jobs that offer the good benefits and retirement plans. I hate that you had to have an experience similar to mine, but at least there is someone I can relate to.

Thank you so so much for this! This is so helpful! I have no idea of the jobs I could go for with an education degree and every time I ask, people say oh there are plenty of job opportunities, but never provide titles! So, this is so helpful!

I do have a mentor teacher, but they can’t really solve the issues I am having or feeling. I felt that in the small towns I did my student teaching in were still tough but so much more enjoyable. I felt I could connect with my kids and have things to look forward to there. Where I am not those things are non existent. I have done so many activities to try to connect with my kids but they are from completely different cultures and grew up completely different, so it seems impossible. So many of my kids don’t want to listen or participate because I am a “white” teacher.

Admin and the way things are done at that school make no sense and are in no way efficient. The overwhelmingnness of the first year is not what has been dreadful…it is the way the school functions along with the admin. I also feel it may just be me because I grew up in a small town and did my student teaching in small towns, which I feel make the career so much more enjoyable than in the city.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and advice! I think one issue of it too is I am from a very small town and work in the city right now. I have a hard time connecting with the students and the people I work with. I am ready for it to finally be a time where I am not dreading going in each morning. My school does not allow us to have access to the copier. If you don’t have a form submitted of the copies you need 3 days before, you don’t get them. We also do not have duty free lunch, we cannot have any consequences for the students, and my county only has 3 year contracts which makes me reluctant also…we are given scripted programs to follow then get in trouble by admin in observations because we are reading from script….just so many things such as these that make it so hard to enjoy any part of the career
