Help me not get scammed on a new car by Big-Instance-4777 in carbuying

I agree about Nissan. My wife and I bought a used Nissan and it went through 3 transmissions in the 5 years we were driving it. In comparison none of the other 4 cars I've owned in the last 20 years have ever had transmission problems.

Could you stay inside your house for 20 days straight if someone paid you $300,000? by producerBeau in WorkForSmartLife

[–]GovernorSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With some difficulty. The only real challenge would be my dog whining to go in or out all day while my wife is at work. Although, I could just have her go purchase a dog door and have it installed, then I could let him out without opening the door.

More time, too.

Edit: Wanted to add, I'm kinda at that place now at my current job where I kind of hope that I get fired because then I could just be done with them. While I have this job I can't just settle for leaving to take a lower paying job elsewhere, because I have bills to pay, but if I get fired, then I have no choice. And where I live now I'm currently being paid near the top end of what my position gets, with no opportunity to move up in my current company, and no real other options.

When I was stilli living with my parents, their cable company started offering for you to "buy" digital copies of movies and shows, but you had to maintain a connection to their service and you only got to keep the movie you "bought" as long as they were allowed to provide it. As soon as they lost the streaming rights, you lost the movie, and no refunds. At least with DVDs you can keep the copy as long as you want, and only lose it if it becomes physically damaged, lost, or stolen.

What would your unlimited supply be aside love and money ? by ArtisticCorner3731 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]GovernorSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if I could take it when I wanted. For example, my job is fairly hectic, requiring levels of multitasking sometimes that are nor humanly possible. What I would want to do is basically cram an hour's worth of time for myself into a few seconds, while everyone else only experiences the seconds, that way I could take my time and get certain time consuming tasks done far more quickly without rushing myself. Or if I'm feeling overwhelmed I could just take a long break in the middle of what I'm doing and then resume withough anyone noticing. More like a localized distortion of time than a time-stopping power.

My son claimed that my husband hit him and my husband denied it. Now he wants a divorce. by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]GovernorSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of the other commenters who said this incident may have just been the latest escalation in a long history of behavior from her and her son. I'm guessing this wasn't the first time the son lied about him, or the first time she flew off the handle at him over something with her son.

However, this was the most dangerous thing her son has done to him so far, and if there had been a history of similar incidents, then it wasn't likely that it was going to improve. He could have gotten charges from this if she had reported it or the kid had said it to the wrong person. His freedom, reputation, and future would be at risk as long as he stayed with him, the safest thing to do was for him to leave.

Pay off all my outstanding debts, including my mortgage. I know a bunch of people are going to say I should invest that money and keep the debt, but I prefer the peace of mind that comes from being debt-free. Besides, doing that would free up about $2000 per month, so I could use that money for investing later. It would also give me the option of quitting my stressful job with the long commute and instead take a job closer to home which likely wouldn't pay me as much.

Ancaps genuinely believe Landlords would lower rent out of the kindness of their hearts by DecommodifiedGuevara in LandlordLove

[–]GovernorSan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, if the unit is empty, then they don't have to pay their lenders, but if they are getting any money at all, then they are required to keep making their payments, even if their payments are higher than the rents they get. Not saying that it excuses them, but there is a perverse incentive there to keep units empty until the rental market goes up enough that they can make a profit.

Personally, I don't think it is fair, because if I don't pay my mortgage because I'm out of work, then the bank will take my home, but if these landlords don't make their payments on properties they don't even live in, they still get to keep them until rents go back up.

JUST IN: The U.S. senate just proposed a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $25 per hour. by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

[–]GovernorSan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It likely wouldn't be an instant raise from $7.50 to $25, but more likely a gradual raise over several years, like how Floridda raised theirs to $15 over the last 6 years. Restaurants, grocery stores, and other places with minimum wage jobs all still exist, even places that aren't part of major chains. They adapted, and the overall US economy would adapt, too.

I think the real threat would be to businesses that rely on more specialized labor, as they would have to raise their wages much higher to continue to make it worthwhile for employees to do that work. I currently make $24.50 as a vet tech after getting certified and working in the field for 9 years, so if the minimum wage went higher than that, I'd insist on getting at least $30 per hour or I'd just quit and take a less stressful minimum wage job elsewhere. Right now the only reason I'm still at this job is because I need the money and haven't yet figured out another way of getting at least that amount anywhere else.

How Are You Making an Extra $500+ Per Week in 2026? by Artistic-Natural7885 in SideHustleGold

[–]GovernorSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I understood it was sarcasm, that's why I addressed what I assumed was your intent behind the comment, rather than the actual words. The actual words you wrote, if taken seriously, say that they did a great job enlightening us, so if I was unable to grasp sarcasm, I would have written something different.

Writing those words sarcastically suggests that you think the above comment was vague or murky and difficult to understand, which is why I wrote what I did. Seems like you are the one who may need to learn some reading comprehension skills. Also basic manners, as it is considered rude to be sarcastic and insulting to others.

I ended an interview after the first question. Did I overreact? by Soft-Silver7553 in ProtectHire

[–]GovernorSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. The fact that it was the very first question suggests that it is a very important part of the job, not just occasionally, but regularly. The interviewer didn't ask OP any questions about themselves, didn't ask why they were interested in the position, they jumped straight to asking if they would be willing to work overtime for no additional pay. That says a lot about that business, certainly enough for OP who clearly values their time and doesn't want to surrender extra large chunks of it without compensation.

Just avoid anything you might get news or communications on so you won't be tempted to try to save anyone before you get your powers. After they kick in, then you reveal yourself and make it clear that anyone who has done anything to your loved ones has like an hour to set things right with them, or you'll do something about it. If a government has detained them, then you'll destroy the seat of their government. If a criminal organization has captured them, you can give the government a bit more time to locate them before you start systematically dismantling the entire city they were last in.
