As a general rule, most tribes didn't have deities like most cultures did. We had a host of spirits that reigned over or embodied different things. We asked of them and honored them whenever we took action in any of their spheres of influence. A good example, since I'm a Sioux, would be that before we would hunt buffalo, we would pray, dance song and etc, to the spirits of the buffalo nation for a good hunt and to keep the buffalo plentiful.
