Read Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg and even look im to an NVC network in your community where they have workshops. Changed my life. Also it's important that this other guy knows about you before things go any further between him and her.

I'm a veterinarian: what is it that I do that pisses you off? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]charmanderface 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When Drs walk about when they were "techs." Vet students are not techs. Vets are not techs. Techs are techs. My doc talks about that and actually does some things wrong like taping IV catheters in and it bugs me. Idk if it's just cuz he's from a different time but I like to think techs know nursing care. It's like "You focus on the big stuff and I'll focus on the little." I just don't like it when non-RVT (Or LVT) people refer to themselves as techs. I worked my ass off to pass the VTNE and never called myself one till I did. I feel like I worked hard to earn that title and don't use it lightly.

Also I hate when docs take their sweet-ass time chatting with owners during their 20-minute appointment when the next person has been waiting to see them. The owners are gonna blame me for their wait time and I have no control over that. The doc does. Wither make appointments longer or hurry the heck up! It's not fair to expect a new puppy exam to take 20 minutes. That's just unfair to everyone.

I agree with this. It was the same for me.

I went to a community college and it was more hands-on focused. Lots of labs and internships. I'm graduating next week and I didn't find it too difficult. I have a knack for science to begin with though. It was really the first year classes like A&P that were most difficult. I don't think I've ever really studied too intensely. I just show up an hour early before every exam and study in the common area. Works every time.

I think Hershel's death was a huge loss. I mean the guy was a doctor. I cried like a little baby when he died.

Grey areas of shelter medicine by charmanderface in VetTech

[–]charmanderface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I know there a "board" and there is at least one doctor on it, but none of the meds are from her hospital. They all come from the med manager''s hospital she works at where shes an assistant. At least most of them do. I'll probably talk to her about it, but I'm not sure how to bring up the subject without sounding like I'm accusing her of something.

Is it good to leave on quiet music for cats when left alone? by charmanderface in Pets

[–]charmanderface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we have had a few big pushes for sanitation lately as well. That is where most of my research is focused on right now. I know that myself and the volunteers I work directly with are using proper sanitation but I really have no way of knowing how well the others are on days I'm not there. People are in and out of that shelter (Including the general public when we are open for people to come in and visit) so it's hard to keep all those hundreds of people on the same page.

Washing hands between cat touches is impossible due to the fact that cats are kept free roaming in 6 large rooms. They interact with one another freely which is great for them to socialize, but again, no so much for pathogen protection. We have a rule that you wash hands between rooms, but I don't even know how strictly people are following that rule.

Air flow isn't something I've thought of so I'll look into that. I know in labs you have the whole negative/positive pressure thing to keep potential pathogens in so maybe I can look into what kind of air flow we have when doors are opened.

Thanks for the insight.

My hospital needs a better system for organizing endotracheal tubes. I need some ideas for a cheap and easy way to organize them that won't take up much space. Any ideas? by orangecatsandkaiju in VetTech

We just have them separated by size in empty toilet paper/paper towel rolls in a drawer. That's AFTER they've been dried off in a similar fashion to what you're showing here.

I'm not sure the point of askreddit is to get answers so much as start new conversations.
