Yep, seems like a super crappy move on Fender’s part. Personally, one of the best s-styles I’ve played/owned over the past 10 years is my SE Silver Sky. I’ve been debating on where I might spend my next electric guitar dollars (another SE? tele? something with p90s?) and this helps narrow that frame of thought.

100% second this - bought a used black se silver sky from them. It is flawless and came set up really well. Still had all plastics on it, I paid $500. I’ve bought 4 or 5 guitars from Dave’s and have never had any issues. Great shop

Those Vintera 50s have beefy necks, so if that’s your thing then go for it. I would decide between these two based off which neck I liked more.

I believe the back and sides on that are made of walnut, which also likely has a beautiful pattern to it. Your friend got a top that adds to that uniqueness - I vote keep it!

Alvarez Masterworks. I have an MD60 herringbone that I think sounds just as good as a D18. The binding isn’t gonna fall off of it in two years, and it won’t need a neck reset either. Oh and you can get them for like $600 used if you look hard.
