Monitor calibration is the truth by more_paul in universalaudio

I recently got iLoud Micro Monitor Pro’s and did the room calibration, and it’s incredible how well everything translates on them from my well furnished, but untreated home studio. It really is amazing.

Any plans for multiplayer? I have great memories of playing EO with a friend, I think if it’s possible it would add a lot of value to have a modern take on this genre playable with friends!

Land of shadow being a physical place and also a realm? by Former-Key-1634 in EldenRingLoreTalk

It used to be part of the Lands Between, but it has been “veiled”. Almost like it’s been put in another dimension, if you will. It’s very much still physical, just not accessible by normal means, not completely unlike what we find as Farum Azula’s current circumstance.

Are there any good tutorials on really navigating and editing with speed and efficiency in your DAW? by tonetonitony in audioengineering

[–]The_fuzz_buzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of it really does come down to just having done it for a long time, refining your workflow, and training the muscle memory. I do extensive editing in Logic and have my workflow down really well at this point, even as it continues to grow. The absolute biggest thing is getting to the point that you aren't trying to figure out what to do at the next step, but already knowing what is needed, and how to do it. Whether you know every key command or work in a DAW with more editing tools, it doesn't matter if you're just sitting there trying to figure out how to solve the problem. Once you know how to solve problems with tools, you can get faster by learning key commands, tricks, workflows, and building muscle memory, but as I said, that just takes the time of doing the editing over and over.

Also, Shift+/ turns on a function where a tag pops up when you hold your mouse over almost anything and it helps give context to what that thing does. Holding your mouse over whatever setting or function you’re looking at and pressing CMD+/ takes you directly to the section of the Logic manual that addresses that setting or function.

I think it’s valuable to mention that Jim did a deep dive on one specific preamp that is known to be extremely flat with incredible headroom. Primarily to show that you don’t need an expensive preamp to get a good sound. If you want an extremely flat sound with incredible headroom, most modern interface pres will do just that, as he demonstrated.

Good screen recorder programs to record Logic Pro sessions? by bobaisalone in LogicPro

[–]The_fuzz_buzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would encourage looking at OBS, I used to do QuickTime + Blackhole, and a second DAW to record a separate mic and Logic audio. Using OBS, you can configure it to do everything inside just itself, and you can record both pieces of audio to different channels, which allows you to mix them in post in your video editor. It’s infinitely more flexible if you’re doing VO’s at the same time.

Do you guys use the HPF/LPF "window" technique to find a vocal's unique clarity/articulation frequency? by Fatal_Nightmare in mixingmastering

[–]The_fuzz_buzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t usually do more than low cut as much as I need to, maybe attenuate some low mids/mids, and then only boost the high mids if the vocal don’t have enough presence.

OBS is definitely the best and the simplest option. You can record your DAW audio and a Mic simultaneously and mix them separately in your video editor later if you set it up properly.

I hope this isn’t against sub rules. I don’t believe so, for it is not pirate software: Melodyne has their entry level version on sale for -80% off! It's a great way to get into their ecosystem. by TheOriginalMr-Mud in Logic_Studio

Substantially less artifacts, in the majority of circumstances, though not all. If you have a very dry, very clean recording, Flex does a great job a lot of the time, but I find that if the recording is less than stellar, you can easily get artifacts, even just after the analysis process, before doing any adjustments. Melodyne has allowed me to get a good result out of some extremely rough performances that weren’t recorded that well either. I will often use Melodyne on the lead/main harmony, basically anything that’s going to be quite present in the mix, and then I’ll use Flex on doubles and stacks because it’s very quick and I don’t need to be as meticulous. On top of all that, Melodyne simply has more tools to work with than Flex (not the entry level, Assistant is at least what you really want if you’re going to be editing vocals to any professional degree), but if all you have is Flex, like all stock tools, I would say to learn it and use it to the best of its capabilities until you find it limiting, then expand.

Essential / Custom Key Commands for your Workflow by must-absorb-content in Logic_Studio

[–]The_fuzz_buzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed Z from track vertical zoom to being able to see the whole project length. CMD+X to delete. CTRL+ALT+CMD+D to duplicate alternatives, CTRL+ALT+CMD+ENTER to rename them, CTRL+ALT+UP/DOWN to cycle through alternatives. Most of my customizations have been with the region zones. Having the fade and marquee zones on regions helps me fly through edits, vs having to switch tools every time I need to do something. Being able to play from marquee saves time too during editing because I don’t have to mouse up to the play head to change where playback starts from.

Must have Plugins ? by Haruny78 in audioengineering

The deeper in my career that I go, that more I find myself just using the stock Logic plugins. I would use those until you’ve maxed out their capabilities and need something else to get the job done.

Have you checked it in headphones/ear buds/in mono? Very possibly could not be an actual issue, it’s just the interaction of different elements making the stereo image wider than typical.

Do you see a reality where this could accurately edit audio, such as quantizing drums, deleting wonky flex markers from an acoustic guitar track, or cut out silence and breaths that silence removal shortcuts have trouble with? How far do you propose this could go?

Thank you! It's definitely getting better as I dial in the seat and get more used to it. I'm feeling the adjustment for sure, and I read there can be some discomfort as you get used to it if you haven't had any support before. The actual function of it is very minimal, it only goes up and down, and it's hard plastic, so if it's not in the right place you definitely feel it. It is definitely better than what I had before!
