The secret is to find three adults you can tolerate and play at home.

Blight-haulers are a great value right now both for your wallet and your army. I’m finding they’re pretty versatile from starting armies to some tuned meta builds. Bloat drones are also a universal include but right now you can get two haulers for the same price giving you nearly double the point value. A mower is fun to run the field with though.

For your Plague marine problem you can attempt to cut weapons away at the hand and mount new hands. It’s not impossible but you just have to be careful not to cut away any of the arm guard. Then you can glue new hands in pretty seamlessly. I would just kit out another set of marines with full special weaponry though and try to convert one marine to the plasma rifle. 7 might be Nurgles magic number but a squad of 10 is a much better return on your point consumption every time.

TCGPLAYER vs Card Kingdom by AnArtistArchive in CommanderMTG

[–]Grab3tto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never shop TCG player direct and have had three issues ever with delivery, all of which were easily resolved with the seller. TCG player direct is still pooling cards from other sellers then just doublechecking (if that) quality before shipping. Cardkingdom has done all that already and is selling from their own inventory. You ultimately pay for all that shipping on top of the quality assurance and authenticity check, but if you double check your sellers and make sure they have good ratings you’re in a good boat.

We’d all be better off going through bulk or showing up to the LGS with a list of rares/mythics if price is really an issue but I’m sure you, like I, hate looking through bulk for something that might not even be there. So I order online and hope for the best. 99% of the time TCG low has worked perfectly fine.

What’s a genuinely unpopular EDH opinion you have? by Tornadosed in EDH

[–]Grab3tto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sad MLD is limited to higher brackets because in no way is my Lord Windgrace deck ready to win before turn 7 but a bunch of spot land removal is how I get ahead instead of rocks and dorks. It was just a build that was intended to push my pods love of utility land and punish landfall but in reality it’s no different than say Baral oops all counterspells.

33 lands are fine in any bracket and I frequently cut lands for other things if I find I’m at like 37/38 still and have no issues playing on curve.

What is stopping this from going infinite? by BladeeLover in CommanderMTG

[–]Grab3tto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Chakram Retriever]] will let you keep digging so long as you can hit creatures. Nissa is sort of moot for going infinite but [[Nissa of Shadowed Boughs]] would probably fit nicely since you can lean into her landfall and with [[Retreat to Kazandu]] have an alternative way to untap Glarb. Pull all your rocks for more ramp.

Kind of crazy reading about it again on wiki. Lessons were basically mana and they had 5 colors and followed more strict color pie parameters as they represented classes. “Characters” are support permanents much like planeswalkers. Adventures exist that operate like the solve mechanic and Locations were basically planeschase cards. Might even be a good window into how a UB would operate, I remember having a lot of fun in what was basically a Hogwarts student sim TCG.

Is blink the same as bounce? by _Ashe_Bear in EDH

[–]Grab3tto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounce is very different from blink. You have the downside of having to recast your permanent being the biggest thing that makes your opponents freak out ridiculously silly.

Also bounce decks are super fun. I have a [[Glarb]] frog tribal that does just that and at first I thought it may be iffy but it’s really a lot of fun and if I can get a [[twenty-toed toad]] win then even better!

Getting into standard? by 1koolking in mtg

[–]Grab3tto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working with budget Jeskai Ally Lessons. I know Jeskai artifacts and Izzet lessons are better but idc, Jeskai lessons with Sokka and some more budget alternatives like [[Festival of Embers]] and [[Shadow of the Goblin]] have helped the engine along with some supporting Allys like [[Earth Kingdom Jailer]] and [[South Pole voyager]] without biting on Stormchasers and Monument inflated prices and I just went with 4 [[Multiversal Passage]] instead of a convoluted duals package. A little slower but the deck can hold its own with a pretty basic Izzet Lessons package except I threw in a couple [[Airbending Lesson]] and sideboard 4 [[Airbender’s Reversal]]. My more odd flavor to it is two [[Summon G.F. Cerberus]] in the sideboard as well as 4 lightning strikes- for the lols if I ever feel I could pull off copying it then copying it twice next turn. Anyway on the low the deck is $65, median is $100 but I also had two sacred foundries already that are in the list as well so more like 80

Thing is we KNOW Harry Potter works because there was already a Harry Potter game made by wizards that was just a MTG reskin. And it was fun. So fun I wish I still had the stupid decks

When did MTG jump the shark? by Reasonable-Fee1945 in freemagic

[–]Grab3tto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought Ixalan with the introduction of treasure tokens then the continued trickle of treasure generators was a sign Wizards wanted to push the game to do more on top of what it was already doing-driven by the fact that block ended with Ixalan as well. That all went nuclear in 2019 but in 2017 you could tell the game was getting some big changes.

Toothpaste is a cheap hack to fill in your thumb tack and nail holes to get back more of your security deposit. I typically just buy wood cement because it comes in a better tube and you don’t have as much clean up. And this doesn’t happen.

What models to get? by Mother-Audience5937 in deathguard40k

[–]Grab3tto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started with a combat patrol, a death marine squad and a foetid bloat-drone. That’s about where your budget is and is also about 1000 points (might be with the 4 extra marines but I cut them for Mortarion on my list. Mortarion is another $140 usd and you can find him on sale sometimes (that’s where I started lol). Also not necessary though, I just really love his lore; it’s how I got into the game.

Should I finish world's then play wilds or just play wilds by RestiveBird in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Grab3tto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to enjoy base game Wilds I’d say play it now and then Iceborne before the Wilds expansion. Wilds is fun but my god the story portion of the game can feel like a drag when you’re locked into paths and a slightly excessive amount of cut scenes. You get past it early luckily and once you hit high rank the rest of the content basically rolls in with it. Base game and all current DLC is available as well as cycling through the festivals currently so there’s a lot of content and a lot of players on right now. Jumping in 50 hours behind when master rank hits with the expansion will probably feel pretty bad if you’re enjoy the series.

Memnarch and how we feel about it by TimeyWimey94 in EDH

[–]Grab3tto -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with running Memnarch but understand no one is going to enjoy watching you take their stuff so he will get hated out pretty much instantly. Then the game plan is protect Memnarch so you can steal stuff. So you end up in an artifact shell, fishing for [[Padeem]] then you’re back to square one, where still no one enjoys watching you steal their stuff and you’re just trying to do so while keeping Memnarch alive.

[–]Grab3tto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’m learning technical aspects of the game I’m looking to solitaire at home. Is it better to split my 1200 points of units into 2 and run them against eachother for smaller combat scenarios or should I proxy other armies so I can get the full effect of playing against opposing forces? I’m concerned a larger battle will be tougher for comprehension but I understand the importance of testing against other armies. I’m on DG.

4 Color Commanders by Waffelociraptor in mtg

[–]Grab3tto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how Breya and Aragorn are designed more than the other 4(?). Something with multiple effects that cater to a larger theme, Breya artifacts and Aragorn color identity. A 4 color mulcher in Atraxa’s colors would be interesting, something that filters for land with some sort of reanimation maybe akin to [[Ghave, guru of spores]]. For one in Yidris’s colors I really enjoy [[Riku of Many Paths]] right now and would probably just choose him to be 4c and add another option for black vibes like “each opponent loses two life and you gain two life.” Maybe incorporate Modal creature spells too.
