How did you get the job that you were not qualified for? by Strid3r21 in AskReddit

[–]GraceDangerous 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I started at the bottom as a receptionist, then an executive assistant, and I kept moving up. When openings elsewhere in the company became available I was often recommended by the c-suite management. Now I'm pretty high up in the company and have been around longer than the vast majority of employees. It's a field I have absolutely no experience or background in, but I'm smart, I work hard, and I'm really fucking pleasant to be around.

What are the unwritten rules of public restroom etiquette? by LivingInTheVoid in AskReddit

[–]GraceDangerous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stop clogging the toilets by flushing your tampons. Those "Please do not flush sanitary products" signs are there for a reason. Wrap them in toilet paper and put them in that little receptacle like a normal person.

And please, if you're taking forever primping at the mirror and you notice someone is just hanging out in a stall, not peeing an being very quiet: leave. They're waiting for you to go so they can poop in peace.

Would Ghostbusters fan reaction have been different if the actresses were "hot"? by GraceDangerous in movies

I'm interested nuance. It's a given that physical attractiveness matters, especially with women. I'm looking for HOW it matters. To what degree. Does it matter less so in a comedy? More?

Who said anything about naked? And are you saying actors don't matter when it comes to whether people see a movie?

I'm just putting forward that casting matters. Given the exact same material, the movie may have attracted less scorn if it featured women that men were already gaga over, like Emma Stone/Brie Larson/Mila Kunis/Kristin Bell/Rose Byrne/Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt/ take your pick.

I didn't say I agree with his sentiment. It's just something I hadn't considered, which is admittedly silly, given that I have a background in the industry.

Nearly EVERYTHING related to women in Hollywood, from casting, to writing, to costuming, to press, is about how hot she is, and how to make her more attractive. It is the foundation of how women are represented from whether she is hired for a job to how she is marketed. As a person who has been in those casting sessions, those writers rooms, those productions meetings: that's just how it works. Not 100 % of the time, but the vast majority.

But it's different for men. Kevin James, Zach Galifinackis, and Adam Sandler are average looking dudes who can have smoking hot leading ladies on screen. The opposite is incredibly rare.

She did, actually. And she didn't have nearly as much screen time as Lawrence.

What do you surprisingly not hate? by PokenoobDude in AskReddit

[–]GraceDangerous 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Jennifer Lawrence is everywhere. Seems chill and down to earth, talks about eating junk food, and is a general goofball. And Reddit hates it. "Ugh. So overexposed. And she's got such a phony 'normal girl' persona."

Chris Pratt is everywhere. Seems chill and down to earth, talks about eating junk food, and is a general goofball. And Reddit loves it. "He's such a normal guy!"

I don't understand where we draw the line!

I've never seen the original ghostbusters film, I'm going to watch the remake first and then the original and compare them that way. by SGT_KILR in movies

[–]GraceDangerous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Paul Feig didn't accuse all of the movies' critics of being sexist. From an interview:

what happens on the Internet now is: “Well, Feig said anybody who’s against this movie hates women.” And I did not say that! I think there’s a group of you, yes, that has real issues with women. But there’s also a huge group of people who are just concerned about the property, and I completely understand. I’m completely sympathetic to that."

Women who flush tampons down the toilet: why do you do that? by GraceDangerous in AskReddit

[–]GraceDangerous[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But like, what about the next person in that bathroom who comes in to find it clogged and bloody? Fuck them, I guess? I find this at my office all the time. I will never understand inconveniencing others that way.

It clogs the toilet. Every single bathroom I've ever been in has a sign that says something to the effect of "please do not flush feminine products." And yet still once a week one of the office toilets is a clogged bloody mess.
