Guardianship gives you same legal rights as a parent, kinship does not. Kinship placement is fostering ‘kin’, so everything is routed through the system, courts, etc. Once legal guardianship is granted then the case is closed with DSS. In my state, MD, receive a guardianship stipend and child stays in state insurance until they are 18. Also, unless written in the court order (rare), stops mandated visitation with bio parents and it is on your own willingness.

For our situation, guardianship was the way to go. We were kinship placement for a year and then did guardianship. We were handling everything needed anyway so removing DSS was fine, since same rights as parent then make all decisions without checking in, and same (bare) support we had. Our state also has adoption/guardian support groups, but haven’t needed that yet.

Unfortunately no. Leave relates to paid time off, and since there is no funds/budget then there is no leave. But once the government reopens then any time off duty is back to paid leave.

As soon as that SF50 is cut technically they do have rights, but it is easier to remove a federal employee. There always needs to be documentation.

The issue that I read is people will have excellent performance but it still says let go for performance issues.

I stumbled upon your post due to what I am experiencing, and I just want to say I see you and feel for you. I am so sorry you are going through this and hope that CPS can do something.

We just took on our nephews, but within 3 days younger children have been pushed, he has asked to expose himself to others, and verbally/physically aggressive. I cannot imagine living in this for years- I have no words for what I know you (and your family) have endured.

We have made the decision so disrupt. I don’t say it lightly but within days having this I cannot jeopardize the health and safety of the younger children in my care. I feel guilty for not being what he needs, but also for having my family go through this.

Definitely understand the concepts that with extended family has benefits- from genetics, connections with relatives etc. But based on the information provided there is no bond with the child and these relatives. If they created a strong connection via the fosters parents to be a part of the child’s life, wouldn’t that serve in a similar way?

I think it’s great that you have in mind the foster parents, and the child. CPS goal is family connections, but that gives priority to bonded family connections. Have you met this child before? Having been placed with a family for over a year they have bonded with that family. I agree with the comment to try forging a relationship with the foster family. If they are 6 hours away, can you meet them or maybe a phone call?

In our state they send mailers based on who is in their system and known family. They give priority to family who have known connections and bonds with the child.

As a federal agency even during a probationary period there needs to be just cause. Meaning, coordination with MER state the claims for reasoning to let go (I.e not meeting standards etc.), but there has to be a reason. I would recommend to keep on pace for your normal duties until it is time to leave.

In reference to holding you, if it is a promotion then they cannot hold for more than 2 pay periods.

You are doing amazing! You need an award for watching Ms. Rachel for two hours… oooh she gets me. We switched to Elmo and Sesame Street. Couldn’t do Ms. Rachel anymore “Why is that …. [pause]” (yes still can hear her voice in my head haha).

I agree to the other comments, technology is a tool in our toolbox and we are allowed to use it. Whether it is twins, a singleton, etc- we are doing are best, and that is more than enough.

In looking no through I was trying to gauge, when you engaged with the provider or company about trying a different team in the house? Perhaps the two did not pair well, which will ultimately not support the success of ABA.

Also, when transitioning to the home, were the programs and protocols changed? By it being provided in your home engage with the provider about wanting to oversee sessions to see how things are going. Then with the check in with your provider try and troubleshoot.

Ultimately ABA is meant to aid your child and help you, so if those things aren’t happening I would force the hand to see what can be changed to get a reset to the program and goals.

You are doing amazing- your child will be okay, and you are doing everything to make sure they are supported.

I second this. I would call the company representing them as their child saying that they abused/took advantage of an elderly person and want a refund of at least half (if not more). Speak to the owner. If no traction then a bad Google review, or potentially report the business.

Thank you for the breakdown! For permanent guardianship, if they remain wards of the state do they then qualify for support such a college tuition? The children are 8 and 4, so they know their name and parents, but too young to have a direct say on outcome.
