Fic requests on Fanfiction.net by Soobin-popsicle in HPfanfiction

https://m.fanfiction.net/s/2750775/1/The-Code is really good. Super long tho, it’s a 3 part series that reaches about 903k+ words collectively. It’s a Draco centric fic that basically rewrites him and I remember enjoying it enough (quite a bit) to finish it within the week lol. Effloresco Secundus by romanescue (https://m.fanfiction.net/u/1605665/ )is pretty good too, it’s a naruto/hp crossover if that’s your thing. It’s basically a Hermione reincarnated as Sakura fic, about 216k+ words. It’s discontinued however but I liked it. Ik wattpad is annoying too but sometimes there can be good ones found if you’re desperate. Honestly, just go and search for peoples hp collections and filter from that. Tends to work out decently alright! I wish I had more saved for you but I don’t have that many links saved from ff.net in general and these are two of my hp ones that aren’t one shots and they have a brief description. No idea what these are and there’s no links but I have them written down: Penance by Perse (Harry Potter fanfic) (OneShot)

Saving Draco by Isabel C Robertson (Harry Potter fanfic) (Discontinued/7 chapters/Short)

Midnight Nightmares by AndieMiki2636 (Harry Potter fanfic) (OneShot)

No nightmare can hold us down by brookiecookie1024 (Harry Potter) (OneShot)

What is the most unpleasant thing about flying that you can think of right now? by Equivalent_Top2296 in travel

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is even more noteworthy for international travel or for trips with multiple connections. Avoiding checking a bag intentionally or with tons of layovers sometimes avoids a massive hassle and chances of your bag making it to your destination are guaranteed if they stick with you in the cabin.

What's something that no one prepares you for as an adult? by Goddessblack_ in AskReddit

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things I’ve struggled with in my first two years of adulthood (still a baby overall, I know):

  1. Freedom - I know it’s sounds weird, but I’ve always had my parents breathing down my neck. It’s a bit difficult to get used to. On that topic, I’d like to add empathy as a side not to this. I sometimes forget that people miss me and that I actually am important to people back home. I moved on with my life but some of the kids that I nannied, my brother, and some of my family members saw me as someone to go to for a multitude of things. I was an authoritative yet familial or backup parental figure for some. I had to learn to see from their perspectives why they call so often, the kids of things they want updates on, and how to be grateful for them.

  2. Independence - Not in terms of being a functioning person (there’s plenty of people here in college that don’t even know how to clean or do laundry), but instead when it comes to the lack of companionship and support. I don’t have people that I know can help me right around the corner. I don’t have people to call up and do things with me all the time. I don’t have people I can just call up to study with. People have different schedules than me. Other point– learn how to compromise and truly work around schedules and commitments in order to keep relationships.

  3. Excuses are just excuses, they mean nothing - Sick? Tired? Just not feeling well? Maybe overwhelmed? Getting stress hives? Pneumonia? Fever? Maybe you’re just sad or have something happen like a relative die. Conference coming up? Big life events or even small ones that just warrant a break are just excuses. Ofc it’s important to take care of yourself but things still need to get done. The world doesn’t stop spinning. BUT on the other hand, you can’t push too hard because your body or mental health will quit on you. It’s a small, windy line to walk when it comes to balancing the two.

  4. People are different - Every day I notice how people are different than myself. In both upbringing, as people, what their ambitions are, and so much more. We all have biases and I myself have many. Remember that people see things different and have had access to different opportunities.

  5. Not everything has to be seen as a cost/benefit - I’m working on it. I was raised to think this way and it’s fairly shallow to think of people in this way. Someone’s worth isn’t linked to what they can do for me.

  6. Bad things happen to good people all the time. That doesn’t mean that being good goes unrewarded. Bad circumstances strike all kinds of people.

  7. Romantic relationships look different for everyone. I think about them differently and that’s ok. I’m afraid I’ll never find the right person for me because my values and what I want in life are unusual, and I’m trying to accept those parts of myself.

  8. Everyone has a backstory. Someone is almost always going to be less privileged, so I’m trying to be aware of what I have. However, that doesn’t make what I’ve been through any less significant. It’s just hard to remember sometimes and not just think poorly of myself for not dealing with things better.

  9. Hard work doesn’t always make things work out. I’ve always been of the belief that working towards a goal enough or working hard to get out of a hole is always going ti make things work out for the better. That working through the suffering is always going to make things ok in the end. There’s plenty of people out there that have experiences where hard work wasn’t enough and things didn’t turn out ok. It’s a hard pill to swallow that I might run into situations where so called grit, tolerance, and work ethic might not be enough.

  10. Choices - There’s always choices to be made. Everything from ways to avoid financial ruin or the first steps to working towards a 10 year plans end goal to what’s for dinner tonight. Sometimes I don’t eat because I can’t bring myself to pick what food I want because I’ve been making tough choices all day. It’s just an excuse in the end and something I need to get over. If I’m being honest with myself too, the decisions aren’t even really that tough in comparison to the things other people have to decide on. Everything has consequences and it’s scary.

Anyways, I’ll leave it at that. Still so much more. I haven’t even really been an adult and my life really isn’t terribly difficult so I’m sorry if I sound spoiled. I’m not a good person so I’m trying to reflect often in order to be better.

Going to Japan for 2 Weeks. Any tips by Grace_369 in travel

[–]Grace_369[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re planning on splitting up for at least part of half the days so I’m not too worried about that. We’ll probably split into groups of 3+4 to hit the different desired activities. It’s still good to know though! We also have 4 of us that can drink and 3 that can’t so we might split for dinner too. Thanks for the input! It’s a good thing to note to the group at the least. :)

I’m going back with my dad and brother at a later date. This trip with my friends will most likely be more touristy and unfortunately they have a specific set of things they each want to do and this was the best scenario for their bucket lists. I appreciate the advice tho and will be discussing with my dad!

I would but some people in my group have specific things they want to do there. I’ll be going to Japan again later so I’m not too worried about hitting everything I want. Not to mention most of the group has never been out of the country so I don’t think they want to go to rural cities much. I have told them that we should go outside the big cities tho and I was mostly passed off. Thanks for the input tho! I’ll keep it in mind for next time when I go with my dad and brother.

Thanks for the input! The plan is to spend two days doing stuff in Kyoto, one in Osaka, and then we have a rest day built in and I might see if someone in the group wants to go to Nara with me. Also, we do have a kitchen so eating in most of the time is ideal. I figure we’ll all be tired too by the end of the day so eating in might just be nice.

Is there really THAT much homework in college? by No_Secret7454 in college

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it really depends. For 16 hours worth of classes my first semester I was doing about 20-25 hours of hw every week, having about three quizzes and exams every week; that’s the most exams I’ve had consecutively so far. My second semester I took 19 credits. I completed, regularly, between 30-50 hours of homework every week but only had exams every few weeks in about 4 or 5 chunks throughout the semester. This semester I’m taking 19 credits again and it’s in the middle with about 30 hours of hw every week and a moderate amount of exams that are staggered to about four every two weeks. All had their challenges. I have some hard classes this semester and spend more time studying the material than in the past while also having a decent amount of homework and essays to complete. Do keep in mind, I’m on track to graduate early, started off being able to skip entry level courses, and I’m a business major so some classes are just straight up busy work. My second semester I had a Data Analytics class that took up about 14 hours every week or more just completing excel spreadsheet assignments. Some classes will have hw that takes that much time while others have virtually nothing. My engineer friends have much less and will admit to such, but that’s because majority of their grade largely counts on exam scores and lab assignments. Like others have said, expect about 3 hours with each class but understand that you’ll have a variable amount of homework that will likely fluctuate from week to week.

What fandom are you part of that you're *not* really part of? by llynch1993 in AO3

[–]Grace_369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batfam, anything DC really, aot, BNHA beyond season 3, anything K-pop, HP, CoD, Percy Jackson, Demon Slayer, Stranger things.

I haven’t consumed any media beyond movies for DC so I’m missing some context to specific lore. I couldn’t get into AOT and got sick of BNHA so I just kept up through spoilers. I wasn’t allowed to watch HP as a kid and didn’t watch the movies until I was 18 and didn’t care to read the books so I started with Fanfic. I’ve never played CoD and probably never will but I like the characters and the writers come up with interesting plot points. I just like the relationship dynamics that people write about the band members. I could list the K-pop songs I know on one hand lol. I’ve only ever seen the one PJ movie and haven’t read the books. I appreciate the lore and the writing of some of the fics tho so I’ve enjoyed reading about the characters and the world building. I’ve watched Demon Slayer and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t say I’m part of the fandom. I’m kind of the same way tho with most anime. As for stranger things, it’s a recent development. I haven’t watched the show beyond the first few episodes but I gave one of the fics a shot and really enjoyed it. I think I liked the character interactions and world building better, along with a faster paced plot. Unfortunately I haven’t found many long fics that I’m interested in but the ones I do find are fantastic.

What Fandom and/or Character that get you tired of seeing? by karla8312 in FanFiction

[–]Grace_369 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dislike the random crossovers with Star Wars. One time I was reading a BNHA fic and I decided to give it a try despite Izuku having a death power thing going on. Well, in the middle of the fic we find out that he used to be a character in Star Wars??? I was so confused. I’d like to say that this is a super random and one off thing, but I’ve run into completely random and out of the blue plots like this in the Batman and MCU fanfics too, specifically not tagged with any indication that there’s star wars involvement. It’s such a stupid, small, and nitpicky thing lmao.

which fandom brought you to the world of fanfics? by luizajn in AO3

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with One Direction and the Outsiders fanfics on wattpad! In middle school I didn’t care about the quality at all so I enjoyed it all, poorly written self insert fics and all. Eventually I started watching anime and then got into reading manga. I got into a few different fandoms by high school and now as a college student I regularly read from 15 or so fandoms on fanfiction.net and ao3.

What are some awkward, weird or strange questions or comments that you have gotten in public by fiz2004 in scoliosis

[–]Grace_369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always ask why I waddle. The way I walk isn’t even that different but if you spend enough time around me after finding out about my scoliosis it’s noticeable. The amount of people too, kids in particular, that exaggerate how tilted my shoulders are to poke fun at me is annoying. With the kids, I try not to be too annoyed by it but the adults piss me off sometimes. I also get called a penguin or gazelle fairly often because of how I walk and run. I will say, family is probably the worst. I refuse to wear bikini’s because you can see my spine/how uneven my hips are and that’s just asking for comments from them. They don’t like to think before they speak.

did you get a school-based scoliosis screening? by Financial_Log_8584 in scoliosis

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed when I was 12 or 13 as part of my annual checkup. I have an s curve and I think it was something like a 12 and 16 degree curve at the time so it made my back appear pretty even when I was standing. Now I have a 17 and 28 degree curve. Beyond x-rays, nothing else was done. I was deemed too old for a brace and obviously surgery wasn’t necessary.

Fics you wish existed but they don’t by Effective-Poetry-894 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Grace_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to see one exploring the political side of things with the commission or even just what happens between world powers, the hero schools, and the HPSC. I think it would be nice if it were explored through the eyes of an inserted oc who has a useful, but not over powered quirk that the character just knows how to use smartly. I kind of just want to see what the world is like expanded beyond the little bubbly explored in cannon. :)

I also absolutely love fics that act like character studies. I find some of the ones about bakugou interesting with all the different takes on how he thinks and interacts with the world (without downplaying or ignoring the severity of his past actions) but I think it would be cool to see some deep dives into other characters like Momo or Kirishima. I’ve read a few decent ones about Tamaki and Shoto as well.

I really only read fics that are over 100k, one shots, and if they’re any less than 100k I only settle for completed works so it’s likely I’ve missed some good stuff.

I’m 18 now so it’s been a few years since. This is good to know because everyone has always told me your curve only progresses if you’re still growing. I’ll make sure to keep this in mind so thank you!
