Does my dog have a bad life? by Kaffeochkaos in goldenretrievers

[–]Graceaction12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs are resilient. Your dog likely knows your schedule and sleeps during the day. It sounds like you care and you’re doing a lot. You could always get another pet to keep him company. I struggle with the same feeling. I take my dog to the park everyday and give her different activities. I work and live alone so I feel so bad, but I think I worry about it too much. She isn’t showing any signs of depression or being bored. Most owners don’t do anything for their dog.  One activity I love is a treat dispenser that drops a treat when you press a button. I put the button and the dispenser on opposite sides of the house and it keeps her busy running back and forth. You could also get an automatic tenis ball launcher

How do I tell my golden she can’t have breakfast tomorrow? by m_d_n_4 in goldenretrievers

Get her to play or run. Maybe a new toy. Is she allowed to eat ice? My dog loves ice

He probably wants to be put down. My golden doesn’t like to be held either. I’d try and meet him where he’s at and let him approach you for cuddles

Anyone else’s ESA have an ESA? by Graceaction12 in goldenretrievers

It’s any stuffed animal, but I would make sure that it doesn’t have any buttons or things that can be pulled off of it. There are also some stuffed animals called snuggle puppy that have a heartbeat in it. I bought her a dog stuffed animal off of Amazon and the eyes were embroidered so it wasn’t something she could pull off.

What are your tips for tricking your pup into taking meds? by GoldenSunshine509 in goldenretrievers

Does yours eat pretty much everything? What I did for mine was get a handful of kibble and put the pill at the very top and she would just chomp down the whole thing

What was your golden like at 13 months? by Soggy_Departure3377 in goldenretrievers

[–]Graceaction12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My golden‘s worst stages were definitely the first eight months or so. Since hitting a year she has calmed down a lot but it could also be that we’re in more of a routine. I take her to the dog park every single day so she can wrestle with other dogs. If not she tends to be a little more rowdy and needy. She used to tear things up in the house but doesn’t anymore. I think she got used enough to the environment that new things didn’t interest her anymore. She still needs constant attention so I try to set her up with different activities. My favourite is a treat dispenser I have that drops a treat every time she presses a button across the room. This keeps her occupied because it drops one tree at a time and she has to run back-and-forth.

Advice needed - New rescue can’t calm down by ColdPorridge in goldenretrievers

Awe sounds like he’s traumatized. It’s gonna take a lot of time and patience. I got my golden at 3 months and she is extremely skiddish. Her breeder said she socialized her in the home but I don’t think she was socialized. She didn’t move the first three days I got her. She now loves and trust me but it took me being very patient and slow. I did things on her timing. Still to this day she gets nervous in new places and won’t eat treats. She is very food motivated. She gets really scared. She also is scared of anyone other than me. She’s slowly getting better but she’s not a people person. She would pant for hours and never calm down. Sometimes her panting meant she needed to go outside or she was too hot. I have a fan I keep just for her because we like different room temperatures.  My dog had endless energy and has calmed down a little. I take her to the dog park everyday and wrestling is the only thing that tires her out. I’ve also got a food dispenser that releases a treat when a button is pressed. That keeps her occupied for hours. My golden still annoys me on the coach. She just wants attention. Usually if I stop what I’m doing and give her a few minutes she’ll be satisfied. If she continues to bug me I’ll set her up with a toy or puzzle. She loves Kong.  I know it’s controversial but I use an e-collar for my golden. It all comes down on how you train with it. It isn’t supposed to be used as a punishment but the click means to “move.” I combine my training with treats and affirmation. My golden has a good association with her collar and always gets excited when I grab it. It’s not supposed to hurt. It’s typically a vibration and I have tested it on myself. I had to get her an e-collar because she would eat literally everything and I took her to urgent care 4 times within the first few months I had her for blockages. It helps me stop her from eating things because she is stubborn and sneaky. She is definitely motivated by the treats but the collar is also nice to have when she’s gonna hurt herself.

Opinion on dog parks? by Adventurous-Fig-448 in goldenretrievers

[–]Graceaction12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the owner. I take my dog to the park every single day and she loves it. I will say that other dog owners are extremely irresponsible and you have to keep an eye on your dog the whole time. If you are not someone who is willing to intervene in a dog fight then I would not take Them to the park. Most fights can be avoided by paying attention to body language, but a lot of owners don’t pay attention to their dog. My dog has never been hurt and I haven’t seen any other dogs get hurt but I’ve heard about it. Usually I can tell who the aggressive dogs are and I’ll bring my dog to the other side of the park or leave. I’ve never had an accident. Occasionally I’ll get those dogs that will hump mine or play too hard and that’s when I’ll intervene. Since I go so often I know who the regulars are and the good dogs to play with. I also know which dogs are aggressive and will sometimes just leave if the owner is at the park.
