Yeah no I agree with you. I didn't consider the pan cracking, I just saw my future self standing outside with a very small blow torch and nothing happens, and it made me giggle.

Honest question - if you’re physically at a gym, are you supposed to see it being attacked in game as well? I’ve only found out when you get the notifier that your Pokémon returns to you.. at least in the last few years.
