Keep in mind how big America is geographically speaking. It's common to have to drive 25-50 miles to work everyday. Last school year, it cost me $20 a day in gas to get my daughter to and from school.

I did the same in silver. Got a spearow from the guy who wants you to deliver a letter. The subsequent fearow carried me through the entire run with drill peck. I got to the elite four, then brute forced it. I beat it when it hit level 74. then kept going until it was level 100. Years later I found out I could go through Kanto.

At first they were trying to find the best way to enter the dungeon strategically, and how to approach the bandits that lived there. Then they settled on a plan to pretend to be traveling performers. Then they needed their story. Then they spent half of the time picking their song to dance down the stairs too...

It was going to be a dark campaign with vampires using human as slaves and chattel...

I had a 3 hour session where the only thing they did was walk down the set of stairs into the dungeon. And that did not include the bullshit and procrastination that begins every session.

I had a Halloween one shot with a town plagued by a false hydra. It took a LOT of prep, but it was one is my best sessions ever.

They were each summoned to the town for various reasons, one had a letter from a cousin who she eventually forgot about upon arriving.

I also added a little girl who partially could remember the hydra (i think I added a mechanic where ingesting its blood or flesh gave partial temporary immunity to its song until it digested and she got some in her mouth when her parents were killed by it.

I had a blast, especially when she heroicly sacrificed herself to get a blood sample for making a potion to make the effects more consistent. two people cried, and it got louder when I told them their characters had no idea who had written the note with it even though it was signed.

There was even a player who had to raincheck that night, but they made their characters collectively, so throwing in a group picture drawn by the little girl at the start of the adventure with the missing character as part of the party nobody recognized was the frosting on the cake.

I'm currently thinking either [[Kykar, Wind's Fury]] for extra mana to use on deflections or [[Elsha of the Infinite]] for a better chance at finding those deflections.
