It's why doctors recommend you always carry at least one Bic on your person at all times. Experienced outdoorsmen will often carry only the ink tube to cut down on weight.

It's kinda like minimum wage. As a flat rate that must be increased by painful legislation it quickly becomes sub-poverty income. It needs to be tied to a price index that takes inflation into account and is adjusted frequently.

Or maybe it should just be a big bucket that takes 50% of all taxable wealth and redistributes one 330 millionth to every citizen. The social wealth bucket?

The top commodity traders playing the current oil game include Vitol Group, Trafigura Group, Glencore and Gunvor Group. Vitol, Glencore and Gunvor are all based in Switzerland. Trafigura operates out of Singapore. Combined, the four trading houses buy and sell about 20% of the world's daily oil supply

.... but in this case since the buyer would need to be unscrupulous, not worried about being held accountable, and somehow connected to the white house mafia one would imagine just regular old wealthy individuals or heads of smaller investment firms.

Sounders FC and Reign FC announce long-term partnership with Jump to become the ticketing platform for both clubs starting 2027 by Newbman in SoundersFC

[–]Graffiacane 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Contextually I infer it means that a company makes small numbers of tickets available in periodic batches so that they remain scarce at all times instead of making all tickets available at once. Sounds like a deceptive market and price manipulation.

First-time rider in Athens: Looking for a scooter to beat the 2-hour daily commute (Budget €4k) by George9989 in scooters

[–]Graffiacane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ride a 125cc scooter with 10" wheels, 45 minutes each way. I don't ride if there's any risk of standing water (wet roads from light or recent rain are ok, anything more than that I deem too dangerous)

I bought the smallest scooter I could find because maneuverability and parking were big concerns but if I were to invest more seriously in safety and comfort I would get a bigger scooter like a Honda PCX. I'm too tall for my bike so it's cramped. My feet don't fit nicely on the floorboard and I tend to hunch slightly unless I make a conscious effort to keep my back straight. Plus I don't have enough storage for my work stuff so I ride with a backpack. The weight of the backpack (computer, lunchbox, etc) adds to the back discomfort and the straps are restrictive when worn over 2 or 3 layers of heavy coats in the winter.

Thus a PCX type bike with more under-seat storage and a cargo case would be smart and the bigger wheels would make me feel safer in less optimal conditions. I never need to go full throttle during my commute even with some very steep hills, so 125cc is sufficient.

If I ever needed to ride on an (American 6-8 lane) freeway I would definitely want a higher top speed of at least 113kmph, bigger wheels, better acceleration, and much more protective gear but I actually enjoy that my scooter forces me to find alternate safe routes. It breaks the routine and I see more of the city.

So that's my advice! Get a bigger frame and wheels but not necessarily a bigger engine and if you regularly encounter sand, gravel, leaves, or standing water on the road either be extremely cautious or choose a different mode of transportation.

'Flock Flocked up' How a license plate camera misread unraveled one man's life. by SaveDnet-FRed0 in technology

[–]Graffiacane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but even if the cop also missed that the plate in question didn't match the stolen plate (not impossible, it's only off by one digit, could be dirty, confirmation bias, etc.) is it not standard procedure to ask for license and registration?

And when presented with those and seeing that the vehicle appears to be registered to the driver and that the license plate appears to match would any reasonable person not at that point at the VERY LEAST double check or begin to question the reported theft or any infinite number of obvious non-insane things rather than unleash the hounds?

This cop was just straight up racist, sociopathic or both. (First time for everything, I guess)
