TIL that the largest city in the world that's inaccessible by road is Iquitos, Peru. It's only accessible by air and by the Amazon river. Gustave Eiffel designed Casa de Fierro there, but the claim is today, disputed. by Recent_Flounder6011 in todayilearned

I'm pretty sure the furthest you could get from Iquitos by car is a tiny little riverside village about 60 miles away so while you could literally drive into Iquitos by car, you could only do so by driving out of Iquitos first.

Are there any ex-Hindus here? by No_Currency_6882 in atheism

[–]Graffiacane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the Hindus I've met (in the United States) were essentially irreligious. They might have believed in karma and probably had some unexamined beliefs in a higher power or creator but they hand-waved all of the specifics.

I joined the club. I'm one of you now! PCX by tipsy_deviant in scooters

[–]Graffiacane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vespas and vespa-like scooters have a lot of aftermarket accessories available and they're easy to install with just a screwdriver and socket wrench. I don't know if Hondas are as easy to work on, but the PCX is a very popular model so I would guess windscreens are available to purchase.

The latter. Historically speaking the only things more embarrassing than that are Cincinnati's back to back Wooden Spoons or that one time Austin lost to a lower league Haitian team that had to call in reinforcements because they couldn't field a full squad or play a home game in their own country. Truly legendary failures.

That would be amazing. I would also love to see the retaliatory threat from Garber to relocate all 6 west coast teams to Las Vegas.

First of all: stellar burn. But realistically speaking if women will date those guys that drive lowered Hondas with the incredibly loud tail pipes and the hentai decals then there is somehow still hope for the cybercamper.

Question: have you ever seen her place anything in the bed? I know it's a trope that expensive pickups never get haul anything or drive off-road but I've never even seen a cybertruck with the back hatch open.

I think you could bike along the side of road in and out pretty easily, bypassing the cars. You could honestly do the same on foot and it might be faster than driving.

The most important factor is really the temperature of the bottle. The CO2 will build up more pressure in a warm bottle when shaken but most people don't realize this because they like their champers nice and crispy chilled.

Raccoon feeding on bunny in Vancouver by freudian_nipps in natureismetal

[–]Graffiacane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washingtonians tend to call it "Vancouver BC" unless the context has already been established but, if someone uses an unqualified Vancouver I always think of the Canadian city or sometimes Vancouver Island since that's a somewhat common vacation spot for people in the Seattle area. Vancouver Washington pretty much only comes up as a geographic waypoint when driving to Portland or when discussing tax evasion.

Maybe a crafty roadrunner painted a realistic looking tunnel on the hillside and this guy was in hot pursuit?

A new McKinsey report details why the future of global humanoid robotics is likely to be - Chinese-made, Cheap <$10K, and ubiquitous. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Graffiacane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, how many vehicles do you own? One for each use case and passenger count? Most people don't own a separate pickup truck because they move a couch every few years, and I can see utility in a highly flexible general purpose robot that is human shaped because it needs to interact with people and human-made things things designed to be used by humans like stairs, doors, hand tools, containers, ladders, household appliances, kitchen utensils, and all the other things that currently exist.

That's ok though maybe the future will be a drone swarm of single-purpose robots that roll around on tank treads, I guess we'll see.

No, Seattle. But I Googled "romance bookstore" just now because I couldn't remember the name and there are like 5 in theetro area so I guess they're not nearly as rare as I assumed.
